ROADRUNNERS PLAYING FOR CHAMPIONSHIP WITH 10-5 WIN OVER STOCKTON

Pomona, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team, the #2 seed in the 2008 ECAC Metro Tournament, defeated the #1 seeded Ospreys of Stockton College today, 10-5, to advance to the championships. With the victory, Ramapo improves to 24-18 overall. Stockton earned a 5-0 win over Mt. St. Vincent in the second game of the day to earn the championship appearance. To win the championship, Stockton would have to sweep Ramapo in a double-header match-up slated for 11:30 AM and 3:00 PM.

Ramapo got on the scoreboard first in the top of the 2nd inning when Jairo Jimenez (Bronx, NY) led off the inning with a single, and with one out, senior Gino Gallagher (Cedar Grove, NJ) ripped a single of his own to go up, 1-0. Tim Gaven (Union, NJ) laid down a bunt to plate Pete Sita (Bayonne, NJ) to take a 2-0 lead over the Ospreys.

Stockton got one back in the bottom of the inning on a run from Jeff Lundell (Henderson, NJ) who crossed the plate on a wild pitch before the Roadrunners took a 3-1 edge in the 4th inning with a run from Jimenez again who came home on another single from Gallagher.

The Ospreys scattered four more runs across four innings but a five run 7th inning from Ramapo put the game out of reach for Stockton. Gallagher came home on a single from rookie Rob Dimperio (Jackson, NJ) and senior Nick Sbarra (Washington Twp., NJ) ripped a home run scoring two more. Jimenez and Sita each drove in another run to lead the Ospreys by 8-4 after seven innings.

The Ospreys added a final run in the 8th and Ramapo's Manges and Sita each crossed the plate in the top of the 9th to earn the five run, 10-5 victory in Pomona.

Jimenez went 3-4 with three runs scored and one RBI while Sita hit 3-5 with two runs scored and one RBI. Gallagher posted three hits on four at bats with one run and three RBI and Sbarra went 2-4 with one run and two RBI.

Dan Mulligan (Wilmington, DE) earned the win for Ramapo in 7.2 innings. He let up ten hits and five runs, striking out six with three walks. Mulligan improves to 6-2 on the year.

Sean Donovan (Hazlet, NJ) gets the loss to fall to 2-2. He struck out one and walked on in 6.1 innings.

Lundell hit 2-4 with one run and one RBI for the Ospreys.
