ROADRUNNERS FALL JUST SHY, PROFS TAKE GAME, 4-3

Mahwah, NJ: In a NJAC match-up at Jeff Maund Field on the campus of Ramapo College, the baseball fell just shy to the Profs of Rowan University, 3-4. Ramapo out hit the Profs ripping nine hits, driving in three runs, but Rowan scattered seven hits across the nine inning match-up, bringing four runners home, taking the game to improve to 15-6 overall. Ramapo falls to 11-10 while remaining defeated in the conference at 0-4. The Profs improve to 2-3 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.

Ramapo made their mark on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the 2nd inning when junior David Deredita (Clark, NJ) singled to left field driving in Ryan Paxton (Long Valley, NJ) and John Callandrello (Montville, NJ) who walked and singled to lead off the inning respectively.

The Profs closed the gap in the 4th with one run on one hit. Tom Ready (Blenheim, NJ) doubled to lead off and later scored on a sac fly to center from Robert Fox (Ocean Twp., NJ). They tied the game in the 5th inning after another sac fly, this time to right field, brought home Garret Mull (Chatsworth, NJ). Mull singled to lead off the inning to get on base.

The Roadrunners jumped ahead again in the 7th when Deredita crossed the plate on a Mike Manges (Glen Rock, NJ) RBI single to right field. Deredita walked earlier in the inning with one out. Their second lead of the game was short lived when the top of the 8th put two runs on the board for the Profs. Mull ripped a single to left field scoring Ryan Kulik (Marlton, NJ), stole second base, advanced to third on a passed ball, and came home on a RBI single to right from Roland Rodriguez (Miami, FL).

Kevin O'Hara (Clayton, NJ) came in to relieve starting pitcher Anthony Cavalier (Sewell, NJ), pitching a one-two-three 8th, and letting up only one hit with two outs in the 9th, forcing the final Roadrunner to fly out to center for the team's 15th win of the year.

O'Hara gets the win in two innings of work. He let up only one hit with no runs. Cavalier pitched seven innings striking out two and walking two. Cavalier let up eight Ramapo hits and three runs.

Junior pitcher Dan Mulligan (Wilmington, DE) records the loss in 1.1 innings. Mulligan struck out one and walked one, letting up three hits and two runs.

Mull led the Profs hitting 2-4 with two runs scored and one RBI while Ready scored a run of his own hitting 1-4 on the day. Ramapo's Joey Cacchiola (Union, NJ) hit 3-5 and Paxton and Callandrello went 1-3 and 1-4 respectively with one run each. Deredita led Ramapo going 1-3 with one run and two RBI.
