Orlando, FL: The Ramapo College Roadrunners split a doubleheader with Becker College on Saturday, to close out their spring Florida trip with an impressive 7-2 record, standing now at 8-4 overall.
The Roadrunner offense was able to pound out eight hits and drew a pair of walks in game one, but was unable to deliver with runners on base, and only tallied two runs for the game. Becker was able to score two runs in the bottom of the second inning off Ramapo starter Mike Murano (Brick, NJ), who left the game after the frame with an injury to his right hip. The Roadrunner bullpen kept the team in the game, as Ryan O'Grady (Union, NJ) and
Tim Hannes (allendale, NJ) combined for four innings of relief allowing just three hits and two runs. Pinch hitter
David Deredita (Clark, NJ) singled to lead off the Ramapo seventh, but the Roadrunners could not cash in, and lost the game 4-2. Right fielder
Jairo Jimenez (Bronx, NY) tallied a Ramapo high three hits for the game.
Nick Sbarra (Washington Twp., NJ) hammered a double to the left-centerfield gap to leadoff game two for the Roadrunners, and later scored on a wild pitch.
Joey Cacchiola (Union, NJ) walked and advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a
Ryan Paxton (Long Valley, NJ) groundout, to give Ramapo a 2-0 lead. Becker's pitching was able to stymie the Roadrunner offense again with Mike Marshall's style of straight over the top throwing motion, and did not allow a run for the rest of the game. It did not matter, though, as Roadrunner starter
Dan Mulligan (Wilmington, DE) made the two runs stand up, as he turned in an outstanding game. Mulligan went all seven innings allowing just three hits, and one run, while striking out a career high 12 batters, in the 2-1 victory.
The Roadrunners return to New Jersey to face Lehman College on March 19th at 3:00 PM in the Bronx.
