CURRY HOLDS ON FOR 9-8 VICTORY, SNAPPING ROADRUNNERS FOUR GAME WIN STREAK

Orlando, FL – The Ramapo College Roadrunners four game winning streak was snapped on Tuesday, when Curry College held on for a 9-8 win. The Roadrunners got on the board early thanks to a John Callandrello (Montville, NJ) two RBI single in the top of the first inning. The lead, however, was short lived as Curry was able to tie the game in the bottom of the first. Curry tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the second, giving them a 4-2 lead.

The game stayed that way until the top of the sixth inning. Mike Manges (Glen Rock, NJ and Jairo Jimenez (Bronx, NY) led the inning off with back to back singles. Callandrello struck again, this time with a two RBI triple to the right-centerfield gap. He scored on a single by pinch hitter Ryan Paxton (Long Valley, NJ), who scored later in the inning on a Shaun Hanrahan (West Keansburg, NJ) two out double, making the score 6-4. Ramapo was unable to hold the lead again, as Curry tallied five runs of their own in the bottom of the frame, to take back the lead, 9-6.

Ramapo mounted a comeback attempt in the ninth inning, which was ignited as Joey Cacchiola (Union, NJ) lead off single with a single. Manges reached on a fielding error by the second baseman. After a Jimenez strikeout, Callandrello reached on an error by the third baseman, which allowed Cacchiola to score, cutting the deficit to two, 9-7. Manges then scored on a Dave Deredita (Clark, NJ) RBI groundout, bringing the Roadrunners within one, 9-8. The comeback fell short, however, when Justin Rabinowitz (Martinsville, NJ) grounded out to the pitcher to end the game.

Callandrello led the way for the Roadrunners with a pair of hits and four RBI while freshman Domenick Raimondo (Fairfield, NJ) picked up the loss out of the bullpen.

The Roadrunners returns to action tomorrow, taking on Sewanee University at Noon.
