TWO SECOND HALF GOALS GIVE MONTCLAIR WIN OVER RAMAPO

Mahwah, NJ: Ramapo College fell short, 2-0 today to the Red Hawks of Montclair State University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference field hockey match-up at the Athletic Center. The Roadrunners fall to 7-10 overall, 1-4 in the NJAC.

Montclair (10-7 overall, 1-4 NJAC) earned the 2-0 victory after posting two second half goals ripping 11 shots on the Ramapo goalkeeper.

Sophomore Melissa Flaherty (Fishkill, NY) gave the Red Hawks a 1-0 edge at 47:52 when her team capitalized on a penalty corner. Jessica Murphy (West Long Branch, NJ) connected with Flaherty who chipped the ball over the head of Megan Tierney (Wayne, NJ) for the one goal advantage.

The Red Hawks took the 2-0 lead in the 59th minute when Justine DiPaolo (Lanoka Harbor, NJ) found Kelly Montgomery (Ocean, NJ) inside the circle. The goal was Montgomery's first of the year. Emina Udrijia (West Paterson, NJ) blocked one shot in the game earning the shut out for MSU.

Tierney stopped seven shots in the cage for Ramapo in the full 70 minutes of play.

The Roadrunners play their final game of the 2008 season when they travel to Rowan University on Saturday, November 8th for a 1:00 PM start. MSU takes on Richard Stockton at home at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, November 5th.

Congratulations and good luck to seniors Sara Weimer (Atlantic Highlands, NJ) and Ashley Zimmerman (North Plainfield, NJ). The two senior captains were honored in a senior day presentation prior to the start of today's game.
