New Paltz, NY: The SUNY New Paltz field hockey team fell to visiting Ramapo 5-2, Saturday afternoon. Ramapo improves to 7-9 overall on the year.
The Hawks had the chance to strike first when Sarah Schloss (Brant Lake, NY) shot was blocked and
covered up by the Roadrunners goalkeeper. On the play, a penalty stroke was giving to the Hawks. Ann Marie Rudd (Garden City, NY) penalty stroke was stopped by the diving Ramapo goalkeeper.
Ramapo struck first in the 31st minute, when
Amanda Mavrakes (Wayne, NJ) shot was deflected in by
Kim Raimondi (Ridgewood, NJ) for the 1-0 lead.
The Hawks came right back, scoring 19 seconds later when Jessi Moore (Walden, NY) found Lauren Nicomini (Newton, NJ) for her fourth goal of the season, on the left side of the cage for a goal. The
contest was tied 1-1 at the half.
In the second half, Ramapo regained the lead in the 38th minute, when
Ashley Zimmerman (North Plainfield, NJ) passed to
Mackenzie Cahill (Pompton Lakes, NJ) at the top of the circle for the goal.
In the 43rd minute, Zimmerman found
Sara Weimer (Atlantic Highlands, NJ) on the right side of the cage for the goal and the 3-1 advantage.
New Paltz pulled within one off a corner by senior defender Heather McCoy (Sayville, NY) who found Moore at the top of the circle. Moore beat a defender and took a shot to find the back
of cage.
Ramapo's Weimer put the Roadrunners back up by two, when she put the ball into the back of the cage off a rebound from outside the circle.
Ramapo added their fifth goal with three seconds left in the game when Mavrakes found Raimondi for the goal.
Elizabeth Tong (Woodstock, NY) allowed three goals in 45:50 minutes of play and tallied three
saves. Elizabeth Dini (Sayville, NY) allowed two goals in 24:10 minutes of play and tallied one save. The
Hawks conclude the season with a 3-13 overall record.
Megan Tierney (Wayne, NJ) tallied four saves for the Roadrunners.
