Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College men's soccer team posted their first NJAC victory of the year today at the Athletic Center in Mahwah defeating the Pioneers of William Paterson, 3-2 to improve to 7-1-1 overall. Ramapo now stands 1-1-1 in the NJAC while the Pioneers fall to 1-3 in the conference, 6-4 overall.
The Pioneers jumped ahead, 1-0 at 24:44 when rookie forward Julian Valerio (Manalapan, NJ) ripped an unassisted shot past junior goalkeeper Mike Kull (Millville, NJ). Ramapo evened the score with just over two minutes to go in the half when junior transfer Ken Hussey (Parsippany, NJ) fed a ball to sophomore Jay Castaldo (Jacobstown, NJ) for his second goal of the year.
Nine minutes into the final half of play, the Pioneers were awarded a penalty kick and Valerio struck again capitalizing on the play to go ahead, 2-1. The score evened up once again when rookie forward Giuseppe Trani (Wayne, NJ) hit his seventh of the year off a PK awarded to Ramapo at 80:26. The Roadrunners jumped on top of the Pioneers just over one minute later when Hussey snuck one past senior net minder David Casper (Franklin, NJ) off a cross from rookie Jim Clementi (Medford Lakes, NJ) posting the go ahead goal which held for the final eight minutes of play. Hussey's goal was his fifth of the year.
Kull finished the day with two goals against blocking two Pioneer shots while Casper let up all three goals saving four in the loss. The Roadrunners out shot the Pioneers, 20-10.
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, September 29th when they travel to Kean University at 1:00 PM while the Pioneers host Rowan University at 5:00 PM.
