Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team swept Richard Stockton College today, 13-2, 12-10 in a NJAC match-up at Jeff Maund Field in Mahwah. With the sweep the Roadrunners improve to 20-5 overall and 7-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference while the Ospreys fall to 15-8-1 overall, 3-4-1 in the conference.
Game 1: The Roadrunners took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st when junior
Nick Sbarra (Washington Twp., NJ) ripped a triple to right centerfield and scored on a groundout to shortstop by rookie
Mark Ruggiero (Fairfield, NJ). The Roadrunners tacked on fur more runs in the bottom of the 4th inning after Ruggiero and sophomore
Justin Rabinowitz (Martinsville, NJ) each recorded an infield single before junior
Jairo Jimenez (Bronx, NY) ripped a single past the third baseman to score Ruggiero. Rookie Joe Cacchiola (Union, NJ) knocked in the second run with a single up the middle before senior
Steve Santorella (Redding Ridge, CT) ripped a single to right field to plate two more runs jumping Ramapo 5-0 over Stockton.
The Ospreys tacked on two in the top of the 6th when Matt Hunt (Marlton, NJ) scored on a single to left field by Chris Discher (Cherry Hill, NJ). Matt Hermann (Maple Shade, NJ) scored the Ospreys second run of the inning on a single to left field by Pat Goodwin (Egg Harbor Twp., NJ). The Roadrunners quickly answered back in the bottom of the inning when John Callendrello (Montville, NJ) scored on a
Skyler Conte (Kinnelon, NJ) single to centerfield.
Ramapo's Sbarra and Ruggiero led off the 7th with back-to-back hits before Rabinowitz ripped a single to center to pick up two RBI's. Ramapo crossed home plate one more time in the 7th posting a 9-2 edge over Stockton.
Rabinowitz ripped a triple in the 8th to right field scoring senior
Gary Miller (Washington Twp., NJ) and Sbarra who reached base on a fielder's choice and walk respectively. Callandrello then singled to right field to score Rabinowitz before sophomore
Steve Libert (Wayne, NJ) scored on a balk by the Osprey's pitcher to hold the lead and take the win, 13-2.
Junior
Chris Stanisce (Glassboro, NJ) picked up the win remaining undefeated on the season at 4-0. He allowed three hits in 5.2 innings of work with one strikeout and two walks. Rookie Mike Murano came in for relief, throwing 3.1 scoreless innings surrendering only one hit with three strikeouts.
Sbarra went 3-4 with three runs scored in the game while Rabinowitz went 3-4 with three runs scored and four RBI. Callandrello hit 3-5 and Santorella, 1-3 with two RBI.
Game 2: Richard Stockton jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st when Joe Sacerdote (Deptford, NJ) hit a two-run homerun over the leftfield wall scoring Discher who singled to lead off the inning.
The Roadrunners tied it up in the bottom half of the inning when Callendrello ripped a single to right field to score Cacchiola who reached on a single.
Jordan Descafano (Toms River, NJ) then singled home Rabinowitz to tie the game at two runs apiece.
Brian Paras (Cape May Court House, NJ) singled to lead off the 2nd inning and later scored on a passed ball to take a 3-2 Stockton lead. Discher led off the 3rd with a single and came around to score when Goodwin followed with a single to right field. Mike Liquori (Manahawkin, NJ) ripped a triple to left centerfield to plate Discher before Paras singled home Liquori to take a 6-2 edge.
Ramapo fought back with back-to-back singles by Rabinowitz and Jimenez to lead off the bottom of the 3rd and Callandrello ripped a double to plate Rabinowitz. Descafano hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield which scored Jimenez and Callandrello scored as the throw to third was misplayed cutting the Osprey's lead, 5-6.
In the 5th inning Goodwin doubled to right centerfield and came home to score on a single by Liquori. Liquori stole second base and scored when Paras singled to left field to take an 8-5 lead. Ramapo came back with one run in the bottom half of the inning when Jimenez doubled to left center before scoring on
Gino Gallagher's (Cedar Grove, NJ) single to centerfield.
Ramapo took a one run, 9-8 lead in the 6th inning with the aid of two Stockton errors and the Ospreys fought back in the top of the 7th to take a 10-9 edge on one Ramapo error. The Roadrunners tied the game again in the bottom of the inning when Sbarra tripled scoring Miller and they jumped ahead once again in the 8th, 12-10 and held on in the 9th for the victory.
Callandrello knocked in the game winner which was scored by
John McGuckin (Bayonne, NJ) who pitch ran for Jiminez who singled to lead off the inning. Gallagher added insurance knocking in Callandrello with one out.
Cacchiola earns the win pitching 2.1 innings letting up two hits and no runs to improve to 3-0 on the year while Drew Slickmeyer (Stratford, NJ) gets the loss pitching two innings, letting up three hits and four runs, three earned. Slickmeyer falls to 1-2 on the year.
Cacchiola went 2-4 with two runs and Jiminex hit 3-5 with two RBI in the win. For the Ospreys, Discher and Goodwin hit 3-5 with two runs and two runs and one RBI respectively.
Ramapo returns to action on Tuesday, April 10th when they host Staten Island at 3:30 PM while the Ospreys take on William Paterson on Friday, April 13th at 3:30 PM in Wayne, NJ.
