AUGUSTINE FIRES FOUR HIT COMPLETE GAME IN 10-1 NJAC VICTORY OVER #24 RAMAPO

Mahwah, NJ: Senior pitcher Joseph Augustine (Highland Park, NJ) of #5 Kean University pitched a four-hit complete game today leading the Cougars to a 10-1 conference victory over the Roadrunners. With the win, Kean improves to 27-6 overall, 12-3 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Ramapo falls to 28-9 overall, 11-5 in the conference.

Kean took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 2nd inning when they pulled off a double steal with two outs and runners on first and third. Perry Schatzow (Ocean Twp., NJ) scored the run after reaching on a fielder's choice and Nick Nolan (Linden, NJ) stole second on the play after dropping a single into right field. Maikel De La Rosa (Newark, NJ) walked to get on base in the 3rd inning and scored from third base when Dan Mattonelli (Hamilton, NJ) got caught in a rundown between first and second to put Kean up 2-0.

The Roadrunners got one back when senior Gary Miller (Washington Twp., NJ) ripped a single past the shortstop and later scored on sophomore Gino Gallagher's (Cedar Grove, NJ) infield groundout to second base.

The Cougars extended their lead to 5-1 in the 4th inning when Aaron Richard (Plainfield, NJ) ripped a double to left field and scored on a single to right field by Schatzow. Later in the inning, Ramapo's defense tried to turn a double play with bases loaded after Joe D'Andrea (Hamilton, NJ) hit a ground ball to second. Nolan, who hit a single to the pitcher to get on base, was called for interference after colliding with Miller. The play resulted in two outs and runners were sent back. De La Rosa stepped to the plate and bunted for an infield single to plate Mike Shymanski (Edison, NJ). The run gave the Cougars a four run advantage over Ramapo.

The Cougars held the Roadrunners to just two hits in the final innings of play while posting six hits of their own with five more runs coming in the 6th. Shymanski, De La Rosa, Nolan, Ryan Clark (Livingston, NJ), and Mattonelli all plated runs in the inning grabbing a 10-1 edge.

Richard hit 4-5 with one run and one RBI while Schatzow went 2-5 and Mattonelli, 2-4. Nolan hit a perfect 2-2 with one run and Clark posted one hit on four at bats with one run and two RBI. Augustine pitched the complete game improving to 6-2 on the year striking out nine and walking just one.

Junior Chris Stanisce (Glassboro, NJ) records the loss pitching just 3.2 innings, letting up eight hits and five runs, all earned, with three walks and two strikeouts. Stanisce falls to 4-2 on the year.

Miller went 2-3 with one run and Nick Sbarra (Washington Twp., NJ) posted one hit on four at bats.

The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, April 28th when they travel to William Paterson for a NJAC double header match-up in Wayne, NJ.
