Mahwah, NJ: The Roadrunners swept the Profs of Rowan University, 12-5 and 6-5 in a double header NJAC baseball match-up at Jeff Maund Field in today in Mahwah. Ramapo improves to 24-6 overall, 9-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference while the Profs fall to 12-14 overall, 3-7 in the conference.
Game 1: Rowan opened to a quick start after Frank Hasenauer (Iselin, NJ) ripped a home run over the left field wall on the second pitch of the game. Roger Turley (Succasunna, NJ) followed with a single up the middle and Tim Edmeads (Newfield, NJ) drove him in with a single to left to take a 2-0 edge over the Roadrunners.
Justin Rabinowitz (Martinsville, NJ) closed the gap in the bottom of the inning scoring on a
Jordan Descafano (Toms River, NJ) single and
Shaun Hanrahan (West Keansburg, NJ) tied the game in the bottom of the second with a lead off home run.
The Profs took a three run advantage in the 3rd after Turley walked to get on base, Ready followed with a single and Edmeads ripped a triple scoring both. Edmeads crossed the plate on a sac fly by Bruce Reibis (Jackson, NJ) to take a 5-2 lead.
In the bottom of the 3rd the Roadrunners tied the game on three hits and one Rowan error and they grabbed a one run edge in the 4th when Hanrahan reached on an error with bases loaded and two outs. The play scored
Jairo Jimenez (Bronx, NY) who doubled earlier in the inning to get on base.
Ramapo tacked on four more runs in the 5th inning after Rabinowitz reached on an error with one out followed by two walks and a single up the middle by
John Callandrello (Montville, NJ), which scored two. Jimenez and Callandrello each crossed the plate later in the inning to take a 10-5 lead over the Profs.
Jimenez drove a double to deep center field to score Rabinowitz who singled to get on base to take an 11-5 lead and rookie
Justin Donnarumma (Wayne, NJ) stepped to the plate in the 8th and ripped a solo home run to close out the game, 12-5 over the Profs.
Jimenez went 2-3 with three runs and one RBI in the win while Descafano hit 2-3 with one run and two RBI. Hanrahan posted one hit on four at bats with one run and two RBI and Donnarumma and Joe Cacchiola (Union, NJ) each crossed the plate for one run each.
Tim Seiden (West Milford, NJ) earned the win pitching 6.1 innings striking out two and walking none to improve to 3-1 on the year while junior pitcher Joe Cichy (Vineland, NJ) records the loss letting up six runs on eight hits, striking out four and walking five. Cichy falls to 4-3.
Edmeads hit 3-5 with one run and three RBI while Turley went 3-4 with two runs in the loss.
Game 2: Junior
Nick Sbarra (Washington Twp., NJ) led off the second game with a double to right and scored on a fielder's choice by Rabinowitz to take a 1-0 lead before
Steve Santorella (Redding Ridge, NJ) led off the 2nd with a walk and came home on Sbarra's second double of the game to grab a two run edge.
Rowan's Edmeads ripped a single and Hasenauer followed with a single of his own with one out in the 3rd and both came home later in the inning on a Robert Fox (Ocean Twp., NJ) single and a Rob Ritterson (Sewell, NJ) sac fly respectively to tie the game at two.
Ramapo took the lead in the 5th inning on two hits and two Rowan errors. Sbarra scored and
David Deredita (Clark, NJ) scored after reaching on an error and singling to left field respectively.
The Profs tied the game and took the lead in the top of the 6th with three runs on two Ramapo errors. Tim Barnshaw (Dayton, NJ) and Joe Franceschini (Toms River, NJ) both reached on errors and Turley drove in both with a double to right. Turley came home on a Ready single to take a 5-4 edge after 5 ½ innings.
Descafano hit a two-run single with two outs and bases loaded in the bottom of the 6th to take a 6-5 lead and Cacchiola held the Profs from the mound for the final four innings to grab the 6-5 win.
Cacchiola improves to 4-0 on the year striking out two and walking two, letting up only one hit in four innings pitched. Tyler Dempsey (Haddon Heights, NJ) records the loss letting up two hits and one run in 1.2 innings. Dempsey struck out two and walked two in the loss.
Sbarra went 2-4 with three runs and one RBI while senior
Gary Miller (Washington Twp., NJ) posted two hits on two at bats in the game with one run scored. Turley went 2-5 for the Profs with one run and two RBI.
The Roadrunners return to action on Monday, April 16th when they travel to Rutgers Newark at 3:30 PM while the Profs take on William Paterson on Monday at 3:30 PM in Wayne, NJ.
