Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team cruised by the College of Staten Island, 14-0 today at Jeff Maund Field in Mahwah to improve to 21-5 on the year. The Dophins fall to 4-13.
Junior pitcher
Jordan Descafano (Toms River, NJ) earned the win today pitching seven solid innings, striking out seven and walking only two. Descafano let up only three hits with no runs to improve to 2-1 on the year.
Ramapo scattered 14 runs over three innings to post their 21st win of the year. The Roadrunners got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the 4th after
John Callandrello (Montville, NJ) reached on an error and stole second later scoring on a RBI single to left field by sophomore
Aaron Drury (Canton, MI). Descafano walked and scored on fielder's choice and
David Deredita (Clark, NJ) drove in
Gino Gallagher (Cedar Grove, NJ) and
Shaun Hanrahan (West Keansburg, NJ) to take a 4-0 lead over CSI. Gallagher was hit by a pitch to touch first base and Hanrahan got on with the fielder's choice.
The next three innings remained scoreless until the bottom of the 7th when Ramapo took a 5-0 edge with one run from
Mark Ruggiero (Fairfield, NJ) who scored on a double by
Jairo Jimenez (Bonx, NY). Ruggiero ripped a single to center field to get on base with one out in the inning. Ramapo posted their final nine runs in the 8th inning off a two run bomb by Hanrahan, a one run double to left field by Justin Dunnarumma (Wayne, NJ), a two run single to left from Callandrello, a one run double to right from Drury, and a three run bomb from sophomore Skylar Conte (Kinnelon, NJ).
Deredita and Drury went 3-5 in the win with one run scored and two RBI and two runs scored and two RBI respectively. Callandrello hit 1-3 with two runs and two RBI and Conte and Hanrahan knocked in three runs each in the win.
CSI's Eric Waldhelm (Staten Island, NY) records the loss falling to 2-2 on the year striking out six and walking two in 6.2 innings. Waldhelm let up six hits and five runs, one earned.
Devon DiCasoli (Staten Island, NY) and Joel Pratts (Brooklyn, NY) each went 1-3 in the loss.
Ramapo returns to action tomorrow when they travel to John Jay for a 3:30 PM start while the Dolphins take on Drew University tomorrow at 3:30 PM in Madison, NJ.
