CCNY CROWNED RAMAPO CLASSIC TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS

Mahwah, NJ: The City College of New York defeated Ramapo, 3-0 (30-14, 30-20, 30-20) in the finals of the 2007 Ramapo Classic. Sophomore outside hitter Floriana Garo (New York, NY) was named tournament Most Valuable Player for her efforts on the court over the weekend. CCNY finishes the weekend, 14-4 overall while Ramapo falls to 13-5.

Finals: CCNY was led by Garo with 17 kills and six digs while Melissa Blass (Oneonta, NY) posted nine kills. Nicole Cascone (Champagne, IL) dished out a team high 40 assists in the win. The team hit .386 with 51 kills on 101 attempts and only 12 errors. Ramapo's Maureen Hennecke (Fair Lawn, NJ) recorded a team high ten kills and Meagan Taege (Manahawkin, NJ) added six in the loss. Senior setter Ashley Cornett (Hawthorne, NJ) contributed 21 assists in the match-up. Ramapo hit .176 as a team with 28 kills on 85 attempts with 13 errors.

Match 1: Ramapo defeated King's, 3-0 (30-20, 30-26, 30-26)
Hennecke led the Roadrunners recording 17 kills and three digs while Cornett dished out a team-high 44 assists. Kristen Semeniak (East Brunswick, NJ) recorded ten digs and Christine Simmons (Upper Saddle River, NJ) posted a team leading 12 digs in the win. Kat Clerici (Seaford, NY) led King's with 16 kills and Kelly Greenway (Mechanicsburg, PA) contributed 38 assists. Defensive specialist Danielle Belfanti (Reading, PA) led the team with 11 digs.

Match 1: CCNY defeated Baruch, 3-0 (30-25, 30-27, 30-28)
Floriana Garo (New York, NY) posted a team high 25 kills and 12 digs in the team's 3-0 blanking of Baruch College. Brenda Tejada (Miami, FL) recorded 12 kills and Taisiya Zuyeva (Brooklyn, NY) led the team's defense with 13 digs. Nicole Baruffaldi Ossining, NY) led the Bearcats with eight kills while also recorded 17 digs. Karlee Whipple (Nevada) contributed 18 digs in the loss.

Match 2: Baruch defeated Old Westbury, 3-0 (30-21, 30-17, 30-26)
Baruch finished the Classic with a shut out win over Old Westbury. The Bearcats were led by Lauren Palmer (Fort Worth, TX) and Staren Soanes (West Indies) who posted nine kills each. Baruffaldi recorded seven kills and Kristin Walker (Arkansas) dished out 34 assists. Old Westbury's Whitney Alexander (Brooklyn, NY) led the team with six kills and Siobhan West (Flushing, NY) dished out a team high nine assists.

Match 2: King's defeated SUNY IT, 3-1 (25-30, 30-17, 30-18, 30-12)
King's was led by Clerici in their 3-1 victory over SUNY IT. Clerici posted 17 kills and Kaitlyn Malshefski (Nanticoke, PA) recorded added 12 in the win. Greenway contributed 44 assists and Belfanti dug 32 balls. SUNY IT's Tiffany Holthouse (Clymer, NY) led the way with 13 kills and ten digs.

Match 3: SUNY IT defeated Old Westbury, 3-2 (26-30, 33-31, 31-33, 30-28, 16-14)
Holthouse put down 21 kills in the team's five game victory with eight digs and two blocks. Hillary Pundt (Skaneateles, NY) posted 12 kills with ten blocks and 12 digs while Courtney Ruether (Allegany, NY) led the defense with 19 digs. Old Westbury's Monique Midy (Westbury, NY) led the way with 15 kills and Alexander added 11 in the loss.

RAMAPO GOES 2-0 ON OPENING NIGHT OF RAMAPO CLASSIC

Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's volleyball team opened the Ramapo Classic tonight at the Bradley Center in Mahwah. The Roadrunners went 2-0 on the day improving to 12-4 overall. SUNY IT fell short in both match-ups falling to 4-22 overall while Old Westbury drops to 17-8 with two losses on the night. King's finishes the night going 1-1, now standing at 15-11 overall while Baruch stands at 7-15 with one win and one loss. CCNY went undefeated at 2-0 to improve to 12-4.

Match 1: Ramapo defeated SUNY IT, 3-0 (30-21, 30-24, 30-17)
The Roadrunners defeated SUNY IT, 3-0 in the opening match of the Ramapo Classic. Sophomore Maureen Hennecke (Fair Lawn, NJ) led the team with 17 kills hitting .250 and Meagan Taege (Manahawkin, NJ) recorded ten kills in the win. Senior setter Ashley Cornett (Hawthorne, NJ) dished out 39 assists and Taege led the defense with eight digs. Nicole Higgins (Sellersville, PA) led SUNY IT with seven kills and dished out a team high 14 assists.

Match 1: King's defeated Old Westbury, 3-0 (30-18, 30-23, 30-20)
King's posted a shut out victory over SUNY Old Westbury in their first match of the night behind Sam Page's (Wilkes-Barre, PA) nine kills and four service aces while Danielle Belfanti's (Reading, PA) recorded 31 assists in the win. Belfanti led the team's defense with six digs while Kaitlyn Malshefski (Nanticoke, PA) added five digs and seven kills. SUNY Old Westbury's Whitney Alexander (Brooklyn, NY) recorded nine kills leading the team's offensive attack while Siobhan West (Flushing, NY) posted 24 digs and Sheyra Veras (Bronx, NY) dished out a team-high 21 assists.

Match 2: Baruch defeated SUNY IT, 3-1 (30-16, 22-30, 30-23, 30-12)
Baruch posted their first victory of the night over SUNY IT, 3-1. Staren Soanes (West Indies) recorded 13 kills and Karlee Whipple (Lund, Neveda) posted 12 leading the Bearcats attack. Kristin Walker (Fayetteville, Arkansas) dished out 44 assists and Mayra Estepan (Jackson Heights, NY) led the defende with 12 digs. SUNY IT's Hillary Pundt (Skaneateles, NY) and Higgons led the way with 16 kills each and Pundt and Tiffany Holthouse (Clymer, NY), and Higgins combined for 52 digs. Higgins also recorded a team high 31 assists in the loss.

Match 2: CCNY defeated Old Westbury, 3-0 (30-16, 30-19, 30-13)
The City College of New York defeated SUNY Old Westbury, 3-0 in their first match of the night behind 11 kills from Floriana Garo (New York, NY). Taisiya Zuyeva (Brooklyn, NY) recorded eight kills of her own and Brenda Tejada (Miami, FL) posted seven. Garo led the team's defense with six digs while Zuyeva recorded five service aces in the win. Old Westbury's Monique Midy (Westbury, NY) recorded four kills and West contributed nine assists. Lauren Fischetti (Baldwin, NY) recorded 17 digs with one block.

Match 3: Ramapo defeated Baruch, 3-2 (30-17, 30-22, 27-30, 20-30, 15-5)
Ramapo went 2-0 on the night with a second win over Baruch in five. Ramapo's Hennecke posted 19 kills and Taege added 13 leading the team to the 3-2 win. Tara Tielmann (Gillette, NJ) posted 11 kills and Cornett dished out 50 assists. Defensive specialist Christine Simmons (Upper Saddle River, NJ) recorded a team high 29 digs. Nicole Baruffaldi (Ossining, NY) and Whipple recorded nine kills each in the loss while Walker recorded 24 assists.

Match 3: CCNY defeated King's, 3-0 (30-22, 30-15, 30-9)
CCNY defeated King's 3-0 in their final match of the night. Garo recorded 22 kills and nine digs with eight service aces. Zuyeva recorded six kills and six digs while Melissa Blass (Oneonta, NY) posted five in the win. Karina Castro (Brentwood, NY) put down five service aces and added four defensive digs for the team. King's Kat Clerici (Seaford, NY) recorded four kills and two blocks leading the team and Belfanti contributed 12 assists. Katie Doss (Sugar Run, PA) led the defense with eight digs and Belfanti added seven digs.
