Men's Soccer

ROADRUNNERS CRUISE BY JOHN JAY, 8-0

Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College men's soccer team cruised by the Bloodhounds of John Jay College today in the final game of the 2006 President's Cup in Mahwah. With an 8-0 victory, the Roadrunners improve to 2-0 overall.

Despite the heavy rain and winds, Ramapo was able to net eights goals and hold John Jay to nill posting 26 shots over the 90 minutes of play. Last season's leading goal scorer, Jim Scillieri (Wayne, NJ) posted what turned out to be the game winner at 14:34 into the game when he connected with fellow sophomore Benji Eggart (Paterson, NJ). Scilieri's goal was his second of the year averaging one per game.

The Roadrunners followed with a second goal off a corner kick just over ten minutes later when Arturo Moreira (Lodi, NJ) dished one into the box connecting with sophomore defender Ryan Lahey (Middletown, NJ) for his first goal of the year. Ramapo wrapped up the first half of play with a third goal from senior Kevin Bradley (Rockaway, NJ), assisted by Matt Crimi (Hackettstown, NJ) and Eggart.

In the last half of the game, rookies Mike Terranova (Hillsdale, NJ) and Mike Miller (Middletown, NJ) tacked on a goal each after Terranova was awarded a penalty shot at 46:21 and Miller connected with Anthony Testa (Middletown, NJ) to jump ahead, 5-0. Ramapo's Nick Mataya (West Paterson, NJ) and Justin Stanley (Blairstown, NJ) pushed the Roadrunners ahead by seven at 68:02 and 73:47 and rookie Jonathan Valdes (Wayne, NJ) wrapped up the day with the team's eighth goal with just under seven minutes to play.

Senior netminder Patrick Jagodzinski (Lebanon, NJ and sophomore netminder Mike Kull (Millville, NJ) split time in front of the net combining for two saves. John Jay's Alexander Callejas (Ellenville, NY) played the entire 90 minutes letting up the eight goals and posting ten total saves.

In the first game of the day, Polytechnic University defeated York College, 2-1.

The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday, September 6th when they travel to FDU Florham for a 3:30 PM start.
