LIONS POWER PAST ROADRUNNERS IN NJAC BASEBALL ACTION

Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team faced #2 ranked The College of NJ today in Mahwah. The Roadrunners lost twice in double header action, falling to record to 16-21 overall and 3-15 in the conference. The Lions raise their record to 32-5 overall and 13-5 in the conference.

Game 1: The Roadrunners jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Justin Rabinowitz (Martinsivlle, NJ) ripped a single to left field scoring Gary Miller (Turnersville, NJ) who was hit by a pitch to reach base.

The Lions tied the game up on a lead off home run to right field in the top of the second inning by Chris Wilson (Pt. Pleasant Beach, NJ). They took the lead later in the inning as Rich Kropp (Pottstown, PA) ripped a triple to center field and later scored on a wild pitch.

The Roadrunners tacked on one run in 3rd as Miller ripped a double to center field and scored on Rabinowitz's infield single to tie the game at two.

In the top of the 5th inning the Lions took the lead scoring one run on two hits. Jeff Botti (Avenel, NJ) flied out to center field and Kropp was doubled off first base while Gerard Haran (Old Bridge, NJ) tagged up from third base and scored before the play was over. In the 6th inning they tacked on one run as Andrew Cosgrove (Lebanon, NJ) reached second on a Ramapo error and later scored on a single to left field by Charles Iacono (Hamilton, NJ). The bases were loaded for Blake Bullis (Delran, NJ) before he ripped a 3 RBI double to left field to put the Lions in the lead at 7-2. Kropp singled to left field to score Bullis to post the Lions 8th run of the game. The Lions tacked on two runs on three hits in the 7th inning to put them ahead 10-2. The Lions scored two more runs in the 8th inning on two hits.

Brad Little (Milleville, NJ) picked up the win for the Lions as he pitched eight innings, giving up seven hits while striking out six and only walking one. Iacono was 2-5 with 1 run scored and 2 RBI's, Kropp was 3-5 with 2 runs scored and 1 RBI while Bullis was 2-5 with 1 run scored and 4 RBI's.

Chris Stanisce (Glassboro, NJ) pitched 5.1 innings for the Roadrunners getting tagged with the loss. Miller was 2-3 with 2 runs scored while Rabinowitz was 2-4.

Game 2: The Lions jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Iacono ripped a triple to center field and was knocked in as Haran doubled to left field. He later scored when Wilson poked a single to right field. They tacked on one run in the 2nd inning as Botti singled and later scored on a single by Bill Kropp (Pottstown, NJ).

Gerard Haran then ripped a home run over the left field wall in the 3rd inning to break the all-time career home run record at The College of NJ.

The Roadrunners got on the board in the 6th inning as Dave Deredita (Clark, NJ) and Miller ripped back to back singles to break up the no-hitter being thrown by the Lions Brian Kraus (Feasterville, PA). Deredita later scored on a sacrifice fly by Rivisto.

Josh Epstein (Beachwood, NJ) was tagged for the loss, he struck out three while walking three in nine innings pitched.

Brian Kraus picked up the win for the Lions as he pitched five innings while giving up only four hits and striking out four batters and walking three. With the win the Lions capture a tie for the regular season championship with William Paterson University and Montclair State University, they gain the 3rd seed in the NJAC Tournament and will host #4 Kean University on Wednesday at 3:00 PM

The Roadrunners return to action on Monday when they travel to the College of Staten Island for a double header starting at 4:00 PM.
