SANTORELLA HITS PERFECT 4-4 LEADING ROADRUNNERS PAST MANHATTANVILLE, 19-6

Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team competed in a non-conference match-up today facing the Valiants of Manhattanville College at Jeff Maund Field in Mahwah. Ramapo posted a 19-6 victory to improve to 16-16 overall while Manhattanville falls to 16-15.

The Roadrunners jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the 4th inning when Brad Szatkiewicz (Branchville, NJ) reached on an error by the third baseman, Mike Stetsko (Beachwood, NJ) followed with a double to left field, and Justin Rabinowitz (Martinsville, NJ) walked to load the bases for Steve Santorella (West Redding, CT). Santorella ripped a double scoring two and Jordan Descafano (Toms River, NJ) followed with a sac fly bringing home Rabinowitz to take a 3-0 lead. Gino Gallagher (Cedar Grove, NJ) hit a RBI ground out scoring Santorella to end the inning four up on the Valiants.

The Roadrunners added three more in the 5th inning off a Santorella two run double scoring Miller and Stetsko who singled and walked earlier in the inning to get on base. Descafano drove in Rabinowitz taking a 7-0 lead after five complete innings.

Manhattanville finally got on the board in the top of the 6th when Dan Needleman (Essex, CT) drove in Ted Rydesky (Newton Square, PA) who reached on a fielder's choice earlier in the inning. Pinto crossed home on a bases loaded walk and Louis Annunziata (Bronx, NY) ripped a two run single to center field to close the gap, 7-4. Manhattanville added one more run in the inning off a wild pitch that brought home Michael Mooney (Mahopac, NY). Mooney walked to get on base and scored to come within two, 7-5.

Ramapo answered right back with five runs in the bottom of the inning and six more in the 7th off a two run homerun by Gary Miller (Turnersville, NJ), and runs by Nick Sbarra (Washington Twp., NJ), Szatkiewicz, and Stetsko. Sbarra added another run in the 7th along with runs by Michael Frank (Belleville, NJ), Szatkiewicz, and Descafano who ripped a three run home run over the center field wall scoring Santorella and Greg Smith (Brick, NJ) to take a 18-5 lead after seven. Ramapo posted one more in the 8th and Manhattanville tacked on one of their own in the top of the 9th wrapping up the game behind the Roadrunners, 19-6.

The Roadrunners were led by Santorella who hit a perfect 4-4 with two runs and four RBI while Sbarra went 2-2 with three runs of his own. Frank posted three hits on five at bats with two runs and two RBI and Miller went 3-5 with two runs and two RBI. Szatkiewicz posted three runs in the win and Stetsko crossed the plate three times hitting 2-4, driving in one run. Descafano led the team driving in six runs hitting 1-3 on the day.

Sophomore pitcher Chris Stanisce (Glassboro, NJ) earned the win pitching 5 2/3 innings to improve to 3-3 on the year. Stanisce struck out four and walked five in the outing. Rydesky gets the loss in four innings striking out two and walking one letting up five hits and four runs, three earned.

Manhattanville was led by Anthony Annunziata (Bronx, NY) who went 2-2 with two RBI while Needleman hit 2-5 with one run and one RBI.

Ramapo returns to action on Thursday, April 27th when they travel to Kean University to face the Cougars in a 3:30 PM start.
