DELFINO TOUCHES HOME PUSHING JERSEY CITY OVER RAMAPO, 6-5 IN NJAC ACTION

Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team fell short, 5-6 to New Jersey City University today in Mahwah. The Roadrunners fall to 15-16 overall and 3-10 in the NJAC while the Gothic Knights improve to 15-18 overall, 2-9 in the conference.

The Gothic Knights jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning on back-to-back doubles by Javan Camacho (Jersey City, NJ) and Mike McCormick (North Brunswick, NJ). The Roadrunners fought back to take the lead with three runs in the bottom of the third as Jordan Descafano (Toms River, NJ) singled to lead off the inning and was sacrificed to second by Nick Sabarra (Washington Twp., NJ). Tim Gaven (Union, NJ) walked and Descafano scored on a single to left center by Gino Gallagher (Cedar Grove, NJ). Gaven scored on a throwing error by the catcher and senior Gary Miller (Turnersville, NJ) hit a sac fly to center field scoring Gallagher.

The Gothic Knights tacked on two more runs when Rob Sumner (Union, NJ) walked and stole second, and Rob Delfino (Jersey City, NJ) reached on Ramapo's first error of the inning advancing Sumner to third. Corey Schanel (, NJ) drove in Sumner and Matt Caravano (Elizabeth, NJ) reached on Ramapo's second error of the inning scoring Delfino to tie the game at three runs each.

Anthony Mackow (Bayonne, NJ) reached on a fielder's choice and Sumner walked just before Schanel ripped a double down the right field line to give the Gothic Knights a 5-3 edge after five and a half innings. Ramapo tied the game for the second time in the bottom of the inning when Miller singled to left field and scored when Mike Stetsko (Beachwood, NJ) ripped a double to left field. Stetsko came home on a Greg Smith (Brick, NJ) single to center field.

Delfino scored the Gothic Knights 6th run, which turned out to be the game winner when he reached base on an error by the catcher after striking out. He later scored on a triple by Schanel to put New Jersey City up 6-5.

Schanel went 2-4 with four RBI while Camacho and McCormick hit 1-5 with one run and one RBI respectively. Junior pitcher Milton Rodriguez (Jersey City, NJ) earns the win pitching three innings, striking out two and walking three.

Ramapo Descafano led the team hitting 2-3 with one run while Miller posted one hit on three at bats with one run and one RBI of his own. EJ Sullivan (Livingston, NJ) gets the loss in one inning, striking out two and letting up one hit and one run.

The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday when they host TCNJ in a double-header match-up at noon.
