Mahwah, NJ (4/1/06) – The Ramapo College Roadrunners fell 19-9. 6-2 the Raptors of Camden College today in a NJAC double-header match-up at Jeff Mound Field.
The Raptors improve to 15-7, 3-1 in the NJAC while your Roadrunners fall to 11-9, 0-4 in the NJAC.
Game 1: The Raptors opened the game in the top of the first inning when Butch Amato (Haddon Heights, NJ) grounded out to the shortstop scoring Brian Jakubowski (Audubon, NJ) and putting the Raptors up 1-0.
With bases loaded in the bottom of the second when Raptor pitcher Jason Ronca (Eastampton, NJ) walked in the Roadrunners first run of the game.
Nick Sbarra (Washington Twp., NJ) hit a sacrifice fly to left field while
Joe Rivisto hit an RBI single down the left field line, pushing the Roadrunner lead to 3-1.
Raptor Amato earned his second RBI of the day in the top of the third when he ripped a single past the second baseman coming with one run of the Roadrunners.
The Roadrunners rallied in the bottom of the fourth when they posted four runs on four hits. Stephen Santorella (West Redding, CT) had an RBI single while
Brad Szatkiewicz posted two RBI in the inning. With a runner at third, and the squeeze play on Stetsko scored from third.
Raptor designated hitter Butch Amato hit an in the park homerun in the top of the fifth.
Sbarra hit his second RBI of the day scoring Michael Frank (Belleville, NJ) improving the Roadrunner score, 9-3.
The Raptors rallied in the top of the sixth recording eight runs on five hits. Tom Terrill (Swell, NJ) smacked a double to left field, while Matt Callway (Blackwood, NJ) looped a single down right field line, earning two RBI and coming within three runs of the Roadrunners. Senior Nick Faragasso (Sewell, NJ) hit a grand slam over the left field wall jumping ahead of the Roadrunners, 11-9.
Camden added eight more runs on six hits in the top of the eighth going ahead 19-9.
Rivisto and Szatkiewicz both led the Roadrunner offense hitting 3-for-5 with one run and one RBI while the Raptors were led by Calloway hitting 4-for-5 with three RBI and one run.
Nicholas Eric earns his first win of the season coming into relief facing nine batters and striking out while
Rich Collyer (1-2) records the loss scattering two hits on four runs.
Game 2: The Roadrunners struck first in the bottom of the second when Stetsko crossed the plate as Santorella was caught stealing second.
The Raptors answered back in the top of the third with an RBI single by Calloway tying the ballgame.
The Roadrunners added an insurance run when Stetsko hit a sacrifice fly to left field scoring Rivistio who singled to lead off the inning.
Camden battled back in the fifth and sixth when they posted four runs on four hits and one error taking a 5-2 lead.
The Highlanders were led by Stetsko who hit 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI while Joe Midili (Swell, NJ) posted a 2-for-3 game with three runs.
Relief pitcher Pat Faulls (Laurel Springs, NJ) improves his record to (1-1) facing 18 batters, letting up four hits and one run, while Jesse Bartley (2-2) records the loss pitching 5 innings, letting up eight hits and striking out four.
The Roadrunners return to action April 4th when they travel to Nyack for 5:30 start.
