Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo baseball team returned to New Jersey to face the Warriors of Nyack College in their 2006 season home opener at Jeff Maund Field in Mahwah. Ramapo scattered 19 runs across seven innings earning a 19-1 victory to improve to 10-5 on the year. Nyack falls to 4-10.
Ramapo open the flood gate early in the 1st inning when senior
Brad Szatkiewicz (Branchville, NJ) singled to left with two outs and scored on double by rookie
Mike Stetsko (Beachwood, NJ) to take a 1-0 lead.
Steve Santorella (West Redding, CT) followed with a single to center driving home Stetsko which held as the game winning run.
Justin Rabinowitz (Martinsville, NJ) reached on an error and rookie
Gino Gallagher (Cedar Grove, NJ) ripped a homerun over the left field fence clearing the bases for a 5-0 Ramapo lead. Junior captain
Gary Miller (Turnersville, NJ) scored a run of his own in the 2nd and Santorella, Rabinowitz, and Gallagher each crossed the plate in the 3rd to take a 9-0 lead over Nyack.
Nyack got their only run on the board in the top of the 4th when Tim Dodgen (Flagstaff, AZ) reached on an error and later came home when Bill Gleason (New York, NY) reached on a second inning error.
Ramapo's Michael Frank (Belleville, NJ),
Nick Sbarra (Washington Twp., NJ), and
Greg Smith (Brick, NJ) all added runs of their own in the final innings while
Eduardo Suros (North Bergen, NJ) and
Jordan Descafano (Toms River, NJ) rounded out the 19 Roadrunner runs.
Santorella hit 4-4 in the match-up with three runs and one RBI while Gallagher went 3-4 with three runs and three RBI. Rabinowitz posted two hits on three at bats with four runs while Smith grabbed two hits on two at bats with two runs. Frank and Szatkiewicz hit 2-4 and 2-3 respectively combining for two runs and three RBI.
Sophomore Jesse Bartley (Hazlet, NJ) earned the win pitching six innings striking out six and walking two. Bartley let up the only run coming unearned in the win improving to 2-0. Senior Andy Ashlock (Abington, PA) records the loss letting up five runs in 2/3 innings.
The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday, March 29th when they travel to Western Connecticut for a 6:00 PM start.
