Mahwah , NJ : The Ramapo College baseball team celebrated senior day as well as Head Coach
Rich Martin's 350th career win today in Mahwah as they shut out The College of Staten Island, 6-0. The Roadrunners finish the year at 16-19 overall while Staten Island heads into post-season play at 12-24.
Senior DOUG ADAY (Dallas, TX ) stepped to the plate in the bottom of the 3rd with bases loaded and ripped a three run double giving the Roadrunners a 3-0 edge. ADAY drove in GARY MILLER (Turnville, NJ ), GREG SMITH (Brick, NJ), and AARON EYLER (Edison, NJ ). MILLER was hit by a pitch, SMITH walked and EYLER walked to get on base. The next inning brought a single run pushing the lead to four after MIKE MORDECI (Pearl River, NY ) singled to right field with two outs and later scored on a RYAN GREENE (Wayne, NJ ) single to left. The team grabbed a 5-0 lead in the 5th when rookie NICK SBARRA (Washington Twp., NJ) walked and crossed the plate when MIKE JAKUPCIONIS (Edison, NJ ) reached on a fielder's choice. Rookie GREG SMITH (Brick, NJ) ripped a triple to left field in the 8th driving home MORDECI sealing the deal, 6-0.
Ramapo posted six hits in the win led by ADAY who hit 1-3 with three RBI. MORDECI went 1-3 with two runs in the win while SMITH hit 1-3 with one run and one RBI and AARON EYLER (Edison, NJ ) and DOUG MEIER (Clifton, NJ ) went 1-3 with one run and 1-4 respectively. For the Dolphins, Peter Adinolfi (Staten Island, NY ) and Chris Hemmes (Staten Island, NY ) hit 1-1 and 1-4 respectively while Mohammad Hamad (Staten Island, NY ) and Kevin Biesty (Staten Island, NY ) each added a hit in the loss.
Senior pitcher ANGEL NAVARRETE (South Plainfield, NJ ) pitched the complete game letting up four hits while striking out six. NAVARRETE improves to 2-1 with the win. Rookie pitcher John Sullivan (Staten Island, NY) records the loss pitching four innings, letting up four hits and four runs, all earned. Sullivan falls to 1-2.
ADAY'S double in the 3rd boosted three all-time career records that he currently holds at the college. The all-time career double record now stands at 62 while the RBI record jumps to an even 150. ADAY also added the hit uping the all-time career hit record to 222.
