RAMAPO FIGHTS BACK FROM 4-0 DEFICIT TO GRAB A 10th INNING, 5-4 WIN OVER WILLIAM PATERSON

Mahwah , NJ : The Ramapo College baseball team grabbed a 5-4 win over William Paterson University in ten innings at Jeff Maund Field today on the campus of Ramapo College. The Roadrunners improve to 15-16 overall, 5-8 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference while the Pioneers fall to 11-17 overall, 3-10 in the conference.

The Roadrunners fell behind 4-0 after four innings and fought back to take the game, 5-4 in the bottom of the 10th off a bases-loaded, two out error by William Paterson. The Pioneers posted their first run of the game in the top of the 1st off a Doug Rader (Milltown, NJ ) double to left field with two outs to score Anthony Mazzo (Emerson, NJ ) who walked earlier in the inning to get on base. WPU took a four run lead in the top of the 4th when Mazzo was hit by a pitch to lead off, and later crossed the plate on a passed ball, and Rader and Jeremy Winter (Cliffside Park, NJ) each crossed the plate after singling and walking respectively to get on base. Rader and Winter both came home on a double to centerfield by rookie Dan Limone (Teaneck, NJ) giving the Pioneers a 4-0 edge.

With two outs in the 6th inning, senior DOUG MEIER (Clifton, NJ) ripped a double to left field scoring two runs. Rookie NICK SBARRA (Washington Twp., NJ) singled to lead off the inning and later scored, along with senior MIKE MORDECI (Pearl River, NY), who pinch ran for BRAD SZATKIEWICZ (Branchville, NJ) who ripped a single to get on base to close the gap, 4-2. After a short rain delay, the Roadrunners tied the game in the 7th posting two runs off three hits. GARY MILLER (Turnville, NJ) drove a double with one out and SBARRA hit a single scoring MILLER, and later came home on an error to tie the game at four runs apiece.

Heading into extra innings, Ramapo's MORDECI was hit by a pitch to lead off, and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt before crossing the plate on a bases loaded, two out error by the Pioneers grabbing the 5-4 win over WPU in Mahwah.

Senior pitcher ANGEL NAVARRETE (South Plainfield, NJ) earns the win pitching 3 1/3 innings, striking out four and walking none, letting up only one hit. NAVARRETE improves to 1-1 while sophomore pitcher Tim Cowan (Elizabeth, NJ) falls to 2-1 pitching the final one inning for the Pioneers. Cowan faced seven batters, striking out one and walking one, letting up no hits.

The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow as they travel to Kean University for a 3:30 PM start
