RAMAPO BASEBALL DROPS ONE TO KEAN, 1-9

Mahwah , NJ : The Ramapo College baseball team dropped a 9-1 decision today to the Cougars of Kean University falling to 14-14 overall, 4-6 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Kean records their 26th win of the year improving to 26-6 overall, 7-3 in the conference.

Kean jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first when senior Felix Urena (North Bergen, NJ ) got on base on an error, over to third on a ground out play, and was driven home by sophomore Aaron Richard (Plainfield, NJ ). The Cougars expanded the lead in the top of the 4th after Anthony Puzzo (Lacey, NJ) tripled to center field crossing Perry Schatzow (Ocean, NJ) who ripped a single to center with one out in the inning. Senior Justin Della Volpe (Emerson, NJ ) hit a RBI single to right field to score Puzzo giving the Cougars a 3-1 edge.

Ramapo closed the gap in the bottom of the inning when senior DOUG ADAY (Dallas, TX) hit a double to lead off and later came home when rookie NICK SBARRA (Washington Twp., NJ) reached on a fielder's choice with one out in the inning.

The Cougars extended their lead with a three-run triple in the 7th by Justin Nathanson (Iselin, NJ ). Kevin Wright (Plainfield, NJ ) then had an RBI single to left. He advanced on a pass ball and came home when Schatzow singled to left. They added one more run in the top of the 8th as Derek Gianakis (Edison, NJ ) produced a sac fly to score their final run.

Dave Cahoon took the loss for the Roadrunners, giving up eight runs (6 earned) on eight hits in 6.1 innings pitched. He struck out nine and walked two.

JON WESTERFIELD (Vernon, NJ) and JOE RIVISTO was 2 for 4 at the plate. ADAY went 2 for 4 with one run scored.

Mike Battista (No. Plainfield, NJ ) picked up his eighth win of the season pitching a complete game. He had six strikeouts and one walk, only giving up seven hits and one earned run.

Nathanson was 2 for 4 with one run scored and three RBI's for Kean Univeristy.

The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow as they face The College of New Jersey in Ewing, NJ at Noon.
