DREW TAKES IT AWAY FROM RAMAPO IN THE 9th

Mahwah , NJ : The Ramapo College baseball team played host to the Rangers of Drew University today recording an 8-5 loss falling to the Rangers in the 9th. Ramapo falls to 14-13 overall while Drew improves to 11-13-1.

Drew opened to a quick 1-0 lead in the 1st inning after Kevin Dinkel (Irvine, CA) reached on an error with one out in the inning bringing home Matthew Vickers (Pearl River, NY) who singled to left to get on base. Vickers advanced to second on the throw and to third on a wild pitch putting him in scoring position. Ramapo's JOE RIVISTO (Bronx, NY ) ripped a RBI single to right field with two outs in the bottom of the inning scoring AARON EYLER (Edison, NJ ) and tying the game at one run apiece.

After a scoreless 2nd, both the Rangers and the Roadrunners added a second run in the 3rd inning after Joe Cardinale (Roseland, NY ) hit a single scoring Dinkle and senior DOUG ADAY (Dallas, TX ) ripped a homer over the left field fence respectively. The Roadrunners grabbed the lead in the 5th inning when EYLER drove in rookie CHRIS SOMJEN (Dover, NJ ) who singled to left earlier in the inning to get on base. The game was tied for the third time in the top of the 6th when Ranger Nate Novak (Spring Lake Heights, NJ ) scored on an error by the catcher to tie the game, 3-3.

In the 7th inning, Drew took a one run lead and Ramapo fought back in the bottom of the inning to tie the game and grab a one run lead of their own. In the inning, GARY MILLER (Turnville, NJ ) walked to lead off, MIKE MORDECI (Pearl River, NY ) followed with a walk of his own, and SOMJEN hit a sacrifice bunt to advance both runners. EYLER hit a sac fly scoring MILLER and ADAY singled to left scoring DAN DESANTIS (Beachwood, NJ ) who pinch ran for MORDECI. Drew posted the third out of the inning moving the game to the 8th.

With two outs in the top of the inning, and a runner on second, Tom Caracciolo (Cherry Hill, NJ ) singled to center scoring the tying run. Drew held Ramapo in the bottom of the inning and took control once again in the top of the 9th posting three more grabbing the win, 8-5. Drew's Vickers doubled to left to lead off and later scored on a SAC fly by designated hitter Jon Henrikson (Cape Elizabeth, NJ) taking a 6-5 edge. John Minio (Colts Neck, NJ) followed Vickers with a single to left and was driven home on a RBI single by Novak. Novak added insurance scoring on a passed ball taking the three-run lead. The Roadrunners were unable to fight back in the bottom of the 9th, falling short 8-5 in Mahwah.

Rookie pitcher Matt Levine (Armonk, NY ) earned the win pitching the final two innings, striking out none and walking one, letting up no hits and no runs. Levine faced seven batters recording his first win of the year. Senior pitcher PAT TUTHILL (Doylestown, PA ) recorded the loss in one and one third innings falling to 2-1. TUTHILL struck out none and walked none, letting up three hits and three runs in the loss.

The Roadrunners return to action on Thursday, April 21 when they travel to Lehman College for a 3:30 PM start.
