Mahwah, NJ : The Ramapo College Baseball team lost to FDU-Florham, 17-1 today in Mahwah. With the loss the Roadrunners drop their overall record to 12-9 and the Devils raise their overall record to 9-4.
The Devils jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first. Brian Norton (Livingston, NJ ) and Jim DaSilva (Basking Ridge, NJ ) both singled putting runners on first and second. Thomas Calistri (Bridgewater,NJ ) then doubled to left field to plate the two runs. The Roadrunners answered back in the bottom half of the inning with their lone run of the game as senior DOUG ADAY (Dallas, TX ) had a fielders choice RBI, scoring JON WESTERFIELD (Vernon, NJ ).
FDU continued to build their lead in the game scoring four more in the second on four hits. They scored one in the third and one in the fourth to bring the score to 8-1. In the 5th inning they scored four more times on three hits aided on two Ramapo errors, making the score 12-1. The Devils scored five more runs over the next four innings on six hits and two Ramapo errors. The Roadrunners could not capitalize with runners in scoring position as they left eleven runners on base.
BRAD SZATKIEWICZ (Branchville, NJ ) and STEVE SANTORELLA (Reading, CT ) were both 1 for 3 at the plate. NICK SBARRA (Washington Twp., NJ) was 2 for 5 with a stolen base. TOM FARLEY (Boonton Twp., NJ) took the loss for the Roadrunners dropping his record to 0-2.
For the Devils, Lucas Cittone (Highland Park, NJ ) went 2 for 6 with two runs scored and two RBI's. Norton went 2 for 5 with four runs scored and Calistri was 3 for 5 with three runs scored and six RBI's. Kyle Sternadori posted the win for the Devils pitching two complete innings, giving up only two hits and one run.
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow as they travel to The College of Staten Island at 3:30PM.
