ROADRUNNERS WRAP UP THE 2005 SEASON FALLING SHORT TO ROWAN UNIVERSITY, 3-0
Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College field hockey team wrapped up their 2005 season today at the Athletic Center in Mahwah facing the 2005 NJAC Champions, the Profs of Rowan University. The Roadrunners fell short, 0-3 ending the year at 5-11 overall, 2-4 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Rowan improves to 16-3 overall, 6-0 in the conference.
The game remained scoreless until the final seconds of the first half when Rowan was awarded a penalty corner just as the clock hit zero. The Profs capitalized and ripped one past junior goalkeeper KATELYN FERGUSON (Sussex, NJ) for a 1-0 halftime lead. Sophomore Danielle Miranda (Flanders, NJ) connected with fellow sophomore Rachel Chaefsky (Ocean City, NJ) for what turned out to be the game winner.
In the last 35 minutes of play, Rowan ripped 12 shots grabbing two more goals for the 3-0 shut out victory. Miranda added a second goal on a penalty stroke at 50:09 before Susan Massara (Hammonton, NJ) added the final goal of the game connecting with Amanda Greene (Gloucester City, NJ) at 58:06.
Rowan out shot Ramapo 28-10 in the 3-0 win.
FERGUSON posted 17 saves in the match-up while Stephanie Doherty (Mt. Holly, NJ) recorded nine saves for the shut out.
Rowan awaits news on the seedings for the 2005 NCAA Championship Tournament.
