SUNY NEW PALTZ HAWKS TOO MUCH FOR RAMAPO FIELD HOCKEY
Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College field hockey team fell short, 0-2 today to the Hawks of SUNY New Paltz at the Athletic Center in Mahwah. With the loss, Ramapo falls to 3-6 overall. SUNY New Paltz improves to 3-8.
The game remained scoreless until the 18th minute when senior Lisa Wong (Colts Neck, NJ) connected with junior midfielder Kelly Proper (Red Hook, NY) giving the Hawks a 1-0 lead.
In the last 35 minutes of play, Shannon Stokes (Accord, NY) ripped a shot past junior goal tender KATELYN FERGUSON (Sussex, NJ) giving the Hawks a 2-0 edge. Sophomore forward Ashley Smith (Selden, NY) recorded the assist on the play. Ramapo was unable to capitalize on their 12 shots falling short, 2-0 in a non-conference match-up.
Ramapo out shot SUNY New Paltz, 12-8 in the loss. FERGUSON blocked four shots for the Roadrunners in the full 70 minutes while SUNY New Paltz's Nicole Kovac (Manlius, NY) blocked six earning the shut out.
Ramapo will return to action on Saturday, October 8th when they travel to Elmira for a 2:00 PM start.
