ROADRUNNERS NET TWO IN HOME OPENER

Mahwah , NJ : The Ramapo College men's soccer team opened their home season today in Mahwah hosting the President's Classic featuring the Bloodhounds of John Jay, the Fighting Blue Jays of Polytechnic, and the Cougars of Medgar Evers.

Ramapo improved to 2-0 in the first game of the day dropping John Jay, 2-0 while Polytechnic dropped Medgar Evers in game two, 9-0. Polytechnic opens their season at 1-0 while Medgars Evers falls to 0-1.

Game 1: RAMAPO 2 – JOHN JAY 0: Ramapo's senior forward, MATT CHESTER (Hamilton, NJ) netted what turned out to be the game winner at 59:58, unassisted. Former Northern Highlands standout, WILL MAZZUTO (Saddle River , NJ ) recorded an insurance goal with nine minutes left in the game off a cross from sophomore JOSH TAYLOR (Hackensack , NJ ). Sophomore goaltender PATRICK JAGODZINSKI (Lebanon , NJ ) recorded his second shutout of the season posting one save in 90 minutes. Shane Norbert (Brooklyn , NY ) posted nine saves in the loss. Ramapo out shot John Jay 24-8.

Game 2: POLYTECHNIC 9 – MEDGAR EVERS 0: Polytechnic's Jarriot Huddleston put the Fighting Blue Jays ahead hitting the back of the net at 6:06 and Mamadou Djourthe recorded the second off a cross from Jose Canales. With just :30 left in the first half, Andres Zapata added insurance from Alex Shapiro putting Polytechnic up 3-0 after 45 minutes. In the second half, Djourthe posted two more at 50:18 and 52:58 assisted by Canales and Huddleston respectively and Huddleston added a sixth for the Fighting Blue Jays at 55:48. Djourthe connected with Shapiro off a corner, 82:07, Milam Mladenoviz connected with Gabriel Rojas, 85:09, and Djourthe connected with Rojas, 88:24, dropping the Cougars, 9-0 in Mahwah. Eric Laird of Polytechnic posted four saves in 90 minutes while Carl Thompson recorded seven saves with nine goals against in the loss.

Ramapo will take on Medgar Evers tomorrow at 2:00 PM while the Fighting Blue Jays will face the Bloodhounds of John Jay at noon.
