Mahwah , NJ : The Ramapo College field hockey team played host to the Colonels of Wilkes University today at the Athletic Center earning a 1-0 victory after playing 100 minutes of scoreless field hockey. Ramapo improves to 3-3 overall while Wilkes falls to 5-3.
The game remained scoreless after 100 minutes of play and headed in penalty strokes where rookie ERIN THOMAS (Lacey, NJ) hit the back of the cage for the game winner dropping the Colonels, 3-1 in strokes.
Junior Melissa Quinn (Mountaintop, PA) missed the first attempt for Wilkes and rookie JACQUELYN GAROFALO (Middletown , NJ ) gave the Roadrunners a 1-0 stroke lead shooting first for the Roadrunners. Kerry Zellner (Wilkes-Barre, PA), BECKY GRODZKI (Point Pleasant, NJ), and Becky Plebani (Bethlehem, PA) each hit one wide while sophomore KATIE STERN (Wayne, NJ) netted one of her own taking a 2-0 lead. Lara Judson (Flemington , NJ ) kept Wilkes alive closing the gap, 2-1 before THOMAS stepped to the line dropping the Colonels, 3-1 in strokes and 1-0 for the game.
Sophomore goalkeeper KATELYN FERGUSON (Sussex , NJ) posted 17 saves earning the shutout while rookie goalkeeper Hilary Weber (Mohnton , PA ) posted one save in the loss.
The Roadrunners will host Drew University tomorrow at 2:00 PM .
