RAMAPO AND ROWAN BASEBALL SPLIT , 2-8 and 5-3

Mahwah , NJ : The Ramapo College baseball team fell short 8-2 in game one before posting a 5-3 victory over the Profs of Rowan University in game two. The Roadrunners now stand at 21-13 overall, 10-7 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference while Rowan stands at 33-6, 14-4 in the conference.

Game 1: The Profs took a 2-0 lead in the first with one run on an error and a second off a single to left. Nick Urbanovich (Rutherford , NJ ) scored on the error after singling with one out and Irvin McFarland (Sewell , NJ ) ripped a single driving in Michael Rucci (Clayton , NJ ) who walked to get on base. Junior DOUG ADAY (Dallas, TX) hit a single in the bottom of the inning driving in BRAD SZATKIEWICZ (Branchville, NJ), closing the gap, 2-1. ADAY crossed home plate tying the game at two off a JEFFERSON INFANTE (Bronx , NY ) sac fly to center. Rowan took the lead once again in the 5th with runs by Bryan Ciconte (Gibbstown , NJ ) and Joe Giampa (Franklin Lakes , NJ) who both scored off a hard hit double to center field by senior Jimmy Starkey (Dover , DE ). The Profs added insurance in the 6th with four more runs taking an 8-2 lead. Rowan held Ramapo in the final at bats taking game one, 8-2 in Mahwah.

Urbanovich hit 2-4 with two runs and two RBI while Rucci hit 1-3 with one run and two RBI. Starkey posted two hits on four at bats with one run and two RBI and Brent Dempsey (Haddon Heights, NJ) and Matt Enuco (Pitman, NJ) each posted a run of their own. For the Roadrunners, ADAY hit 1-4 with one and one and INFANTE batted 2-3 with one RBI.

Junior pitcher Josh Schwarz (Wenonah , NJ ) pitched the complete game striking out 11 and walking two. Schwarz let up four hits improving to 10-0 on the year. Senior JUSTIN OTTMAN (Garnerville , NY ) recorded the loss striking out five and walking five in five innings. OTTMAN falls to 4-2.

Game 2: The Roadrunners jumped on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first when AARON EYLER (Edison , NJ ) singled to lead off, and ADAY singled to left with one out scoring EYLER. ADAY crossed the plate on a single by JON LOPEZ (Bronx , NY ) ending the 1st, 2-0 over Rowan. The Profs closed the gap in the 2nd after McFarland singled to lead off and later scored on an Enuco RBI single. Ramapo posted insurance runs in the 7th with runs by DOUG MEIER (Clifton , NJ ), ADAY, and INFANTE taking a 5-1 lead. Rowan posted two more in the top of the 8th but Ramapo held Rowan in the 9th earning the 5-3 victory.

ADAY hit a perfect 3-3 with two runs and one RBI while EYLER and MEIER went 2-5 with one run and 1-4 with one run respectively. INFANTE posted one hit on three at bats scoring one and driving in two while LOPEZ drove in one of his own. For the Profs, McFarland hit 2-3 with one and one and Enuco batted 2-4 with one RBI. Giampa posted one run in the loss.

Senior pitcher SCOTT JOFFE (Hillsborough , NJ ) pitched the complete game earning his third win of the year improving to 3-2. JOFFE struck out five and walked one in nine innings. Brian McLaughlin (Glendora , NJ ) records the loss striking out six and walking one in 6 2/3 innings. McLaughlin let up ten hits and five runs in the game falling to 4-7.

Ramapo will host NJAC rival Montclair State on Monday, May 3rd at 3:30 PM .
