BASEBALL SLIDES BY NYACK, 9-8

Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team defeated Division II Nyack College, 9-8 today at Jeff Maund Field in Mahwah. The Roadrunners improve to 12-4 overall while the Purple Pride fall to 13-17.

Junior AARON EYLER (Edison, NJ) singled to lead off the 1st and later scored when fellow junior JON LOPEZ (Bronx, NY) ripped a single. BRAD SZATKIEWICZ (Branchville, NJ) and DOUG ADAY (Dallas, TX) hit back-to-back singles and each scored on Nyack errors taking a 3-0 lead. LOPEZ scored on a wild pitch and JEFFERSON INFANTE (Bronx, NY) scored on a third error in the inning wrapping up the 1st, 5-0 over the Purple Pride. Nyack posted a run of their own in the 2nd after Jeff Beal (Fort Lauderdale, FL) ripped a RBI single scoring Robert Ringale (Erlanger, KY) who ripped a single of his own to get on base. Ramapo went up 7-3 after three full innings with runs by EYLER and INFANTE in the 2nd and 3rd respectively. Nyack then took the lead, 8-7 in the 5th with a Tim Dodd (Burtonsville, MD) grand slam over the left-center wall. The Roadrunners tied it in the bottom of 6th when LOPEZ hit a sac fly to left field scoring SZATKIEWICZ who led off the inning with a walk. INFANTE hit his seventh home run of the year to take the lead in the 7th downing the Purple Pride, 9-8. The Roadrunners posted nine runs on 14 hits with two errors while Nyack recorded eight on ten hits with five errors.

LOPEZ hit 4-5 with one run and three RBI while ADAY went 3-4 with one run. EYLER and SZATKIEWICZ batted 2-4 and 1-3 respectively with two runs each and INFANTE posted one hit on four at bats with three runs and two RBI in the victory.

Rookie pitcher GARY MILLER (Washington Twp., NJ) earned the win recording one strikeout and no walks in 1 1/3 innings innings pitched. MILLER improves to 1-0 while DAVID WASELESKI (Lawrenceville, NJ) earned the save for his first for the year. Rob Garvey (Babylon, NY) falls to 1-2 with two strikeouts and three walks in five innings letting up two runs.

The Roadrunners will host Kean University on Friday, April 9th at 3:30 PM for their 2004 NJAC home opener.
