Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team scattered 14 runs across eight innings posting a 14-6 victory over the Dolphins of the College of Staten Island today at Jeff Maund Field in Mahwah. Ramapo improves to 11-4 overall while Staten Island falls to 3-11 on the year.
The Dolphins opened to a 2-0 lead in the first after junior Tom Wohlfit (Staten Island, NY) walked and later scored on a RBI double by rookie Chris Reyes (Staten Island, NY). Reyes scored on a wild pitch giving the Dolphins a two run edge. The Roadrunners recorded nine runs in the bottom of the inning taking a seven run lead. Sophomore JOE RIVISTO (Bronx, NY) singled to lead off the inning and junior AARON EYLER (Edison, NJ) reached on a fielder's choice to get on base. Both scored on JON LOPEZ'S (Bronx, NY) single, tying the game at two. Ramapo took a 5-2 lead when junior JEFFERSON INFANTE (Bronx, NY) ripped a three-run home run over the centerfield wall. ANGEL NAVARRETTE (South Plainfield, NJ) singled driving in rookie GARY MILLER (Turnville, NJ), EYLER tripled bringing home RIVISTO and NAVARRETTE, and junior DOUG ADAY (Dallas, TX) drove out a single of his own bringing in EYLER. CSI added one in the 2nd and three more in the 6th while Ramapo posted one, one, two, and one in the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 8th innings respectively. For CSI, Jamie Lee (Staten Island, NY) tripled and later scored in the 2nd while Chris Hemmes (Staten Island, NY) doubled, Anthony Hillery (Staten Island, NY) reached on an error, and Alfie Hernandez (Manhattan, NY) singled, each scoring runs for the Dolphins in the 6th. NAVARRETTE added one for the Roadrunners in the 3rd, INFANTE blasted a second homer in the 4th, EYLER and LOPEZ crossed the plate in the 5th, and STEVE SANTORELLA (Redding, CT) recorded the final run in the 8th dropping the Dolphins, 14-6.
RIVISTO and INFANTE hit a perfect 3-3 with two runs and two runs and four RBI respectively while EYLER went 3-4 with three runs and two RBI in the game. LOPEZ batted 2-5 with two runs and three RBI and JASON BURGOS (Landing, NJ) hit 2-2 with one RBI of his own. Senior DOUG MEIER (Clifton, NJ) posted one run hitting 1-3 while SANTORELLA and NAVARRETTE went 1-1 and 1-3 respectively. NAVARRETTE posted two runs and one RBI in the victory.
For the Dolphins, Wohlfit hit 2-3 with one run and two RBI while Reyes went 1-4 with one run and one RBI and Hemmes hit 1-5 with one run. Hernandez posted one hit on two at bats with one run and Lee added one run in the loss.
Rookie pitcher DAVE CAHOON (Haskell, NJ) improved to 1-1 striking out six and walking three in five full innings while rookie Brian Dowd (Brooklyn, NY) recorded the loss letting up nine runs on eight hits in one inning. Dowd falls to 0-3.
Ramapo will host Nyack tomorrow at 3:30 PM.
