Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team fell short to the Pioneers of William Paterson today at the Athletic Center, 7-4. The Roadrunners fall to 15-9 overall, 5-5 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference while the Pioneers improve to 19-6 overall, 8-2 in the conference.
The Pioneers took a 3-0 lead in the first after Joe Hernandez (Hamilton Twp., NJ) doubled to center field driving in Rick Pignatello (Wayne, NJ) and Tim Banos (Eison, NJ). Pignatello was hit by a pitch and Banos singled to center to lead off the inning. Hernandez came home on a single to left by Ken Lup (Hamilton, NJ) to take a three run lead after one 1/2 inning. Ramapo closed the gap in the bottom of the 1st with runs by juniors AARON EYLER (Edison, NJ) and DOUG ADAY (Dallas, TX). ADAY singled driving in EYLER and junior transfer JEFFERSON INFANTE (Bronx, NY) singled bringing home ADAY. ADAY hit a sac fly to right field scoring MIKE LALLIS (Clifton, NJ), the tying run, who walked to lead off the 2nd inning. Matt Cleary (South Plainfield, NJ) ripped a double in the 3rd driving in Lup, and Hernandez posted the winning run in the 5th on a passed ball. Jeremy Winter (Cliffside Park, NJ) posted a second in the 5th off a single to right by rookie outfielder Brian Gelalia (Northvale, NJ). Pignatello drove a solo home run over the left field wall dropping the Roadrunners, 7-4 in Mahwah. EYLER posted the Roadrunners fourth run in the 9th as JON LOPEZ (Bronx, NY) reached on an error.
EYLER hit 2-3 with two runs and senior DOUG MEIER (Clifton, NJ) went 2-4 in the loss. ADAY posted one hit on three at bats including a double. ADAY posted one run and two RBI of his own.
For the Pioneers, Lup hit 3-5 with one run and one RBI and Hernandez went 2-5 with two runs and two RBI. Pignatello batted 2-4 with one home run while adding two runs and one RBI in the game.
Ramapo will host Keystone on Wednesday, April 21st at 3:30 PM.
