RAMAPO TAKES TWO FROM ST. JOE’S PATCHOGUE

Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College Roadrunners improved to 20-18-1 overall today at Jeff Maund Field in Mahwah with two victories over the Golden Eagles of St. Joe's Patchogue, 5-2 & 7-1. St. Joe's Patchogue falls to 16-19-1 overall.

Game 1: St. Joe's posted one run in the 1st with two outs, Adam Gledhill (East Hampton, NJ) doubled to left field and later scored on a throw after stealing third base. Ramapo quickly took the lead in the bottom of the inning with runs by AARON EYLER (Edison, NJ), KEITH GUTHRIE (Fairless Hills, NJ), and DOUG ADAY (Dallas, TX). EYLER singled to right to lead off the inning, GUTHRIE was hit by a pitch, and ADAY singled to get on base. The Golden Eagles closed the gap to 3-2 in the 6th after John Russo (Shirley, NJ) drove in Ryan Burdi (Oakdale, NJ) who was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Ramapo crossed home plate three times in the bottom of the 6th downing St. Joe's Patchogue, 5-2. EYLER went 2-4 with one run and one RBI while ADAY was 2-2 with one run. DAVE WINANS (Hillsborough, J) hit 2-3 with one run and GUTHRIE went 1-3 with one and one of his own. DOUG MEIER (Clifton, NJ) and BRAD SZATKIEWICZ (Branchville, NJ) added one run each.

MIKE LEIGHTON (Hillsdale, NJ) earned the win improving to 1-1 with five strikeouts and one walk in 5 2/3 innings pitched. LEIGHTON gave up three hits and two runs, both earned. Anthony Siwulec (Nesconset, NY) recorded the loss striking out four and walking one in seven innings.

Game 2: Ramapo posted seven runs on nine hits while St. Joe's posted one run on five hits. The Roadrunners jumped out to an early lead in the 1st after EYLER walked to lead off the inning and later scored off a double by ADAY. ADAY scored on a wild pitch and JONATHAN LOPEZ (Bronx, NY) crossed the plate on a single by MEIER. The team added two in the 3rd by RAY DIAZ (Bronx, NY) and MEIER who scored on MEIER'S double and SZATKIEWICZ'S double respectively. DIAZ homered to lead off the 5th and hit a RBI single in the 6th to score RYAN PAXTON (Long Valley, NJ) to take a 7-0 lead. Ramapo held St. Joe's until the top of the 7th when Ron Reed (North Babylon, NY) drove in Dan Quinn (North Bellmore, NY) breaking the shutout, 7-1. DIAZ went 3-4 with two runs and to RBI while MEIER hit 2-4 with one and two in the game. ADAY was 1-3 with one and one and SZATKIEWICZ posted a RBI of his own. EYLER recorded one run, LOPEZ added one, and PAXTON crossed the plate one time as well.

Sophomore pitcher PATRICK TUTHILL (Doylestown, PA) earned the win (4-3) striking out six and walking two in seven innings.

The Roadrunners await news on an ECAC Tournament bid.
