Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team posted a 4-3 victory over the Scarlet Raiders of Rutgers Newark before dropping a 4-2 decision in game two. Ramapo now stands at 13-6 overall, 3-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference while Rutgers Newark stands 10-12 overall, 3-3 in the conference.
Game 1: The Roadrunners rallied in the 9th inning with two outs after falling behind 3-1, to take the game 4-3 over the Scarlet Raiders. JASON BURGOS (Landing, NJ) walked with one out in the inning and later scored when JON ALLEN (Clifton, NJ) grounded out to third base. AARON EYLER (Edison, NJ) ripped a double to left field scoring GARY MILLER (Turnville, NJ) who pinch ran for MIKE JAKUPCIONIS (Edison, NJ) tying the game, 3-3. Sophomore BRAD SZATKIEWICZ (Branchville, NJ) blasted a single to center field driving in EYLER, defeating the Scarlet Raiders, 4-3 in Mahwah.
David Sica (Lyndhurst, NJ) drove a RBI single in the 3rd scoring the first run of the game and Mike Marcucci (Whitehouse, Station, NJ) gave Rutgers Newark a 2-0 lead in the 5th after singling to get on base. Ramapo closed the gap in the 6th after SZATKIEWICZ crossed home plate on a single to left by JON LOPEZ (Bronx, NY) and Rutgers Newark spread the lead, 3-1 with a run in the top of the 8th by Robert Clark (Livingston, NJ). The Roadrunners opened the gates in the 9th rallying with two outs, scoring three, taking game one.
SZATKIEWICZ hit 3-5 with one run and one RBI while DOUG ADAY (Dallas, TX) posted two hits on three at bats. EYLER went 1-4 with one and one and BURGOS and MILLER added one run apiece. For the Scarlet Raiders, Sica hit 3-5 with one RBI and Clark went 2-4 with one run.
Rookie pitcher DAVID WASELESKI (Lawrenceville, NJ) earned the win pitching 1 1/3 innings. WASELESKI struck out three and walked one improving to 3-0 while Adam DiLorenzo (Maywood, NJ) records the loss in 2 innings with no strikeouts, and one walk. DiLorenzo falls to 3-1.
Game 2: With bases loaded in the top of the 3rd, Matt Buck (Bridgewater, NJ) was hit by a pitch giving the Scarlet Raiders a 1-0 lead. Ramapo tied the game in the bottom of the inning with a run by JAKUPCIONIS who walked to get on base. JOE RIVSTO (Bronx, NY) ripped a double to center bringing home JAKUPCIONIS. RIVISTO came home on an EYLER double to center taking a 2-1 lead. The Scarlet Raiders tied the game in the 5th when Sica singled to left driving in Tom Csigi (Rochelle Park, NJ), and took the lead in the 7th on a sac fly to center field by John Farmer (Toms River, NJ). They added an insurance run in the 8th dropping the Roadrunners, 4-2 in game two.
Sica hit 2-4 with one RBI and Csigi went 1-3 with two runs. Robert Clark (Livingston, NJ) and Matt Halligan (Pompton Plains, NJ) each added a run of their own. For Ramapo, EYLER hit 2-4 and RIVISTO went 1-4 with one run and one RBI.
PAT TUTHILL (Doylestown, PA) recorded the loss falling to 2-2 with eight strikeouts and four walks, letting up four runs on seven hits in 9 innings while Travis Bilak (Bayonne, NJ) gets the win, striking out five, walking two, and letting up six hits in nine innings.
Ramapo will return to action on Monday, April 12th at Montclair for a 3:30 PM start.
