Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team fell to the Red Hawks of Montclair State, 15-8, today at Jeff Maund Field. The Roadrunners fall to 15-8-1, 4-4 NJAC while the Red Hawks improve to 10-12-1, 5-4 in the conference.
The Red Hawks jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the 1st with a grand slam by Joe Giacomiazzio (East Brunswick, NJ). Giacomiazzio drove in Ethan Boyd (Perth Amboy, NJ), Danny Rodriguez (South Brunswick, NJ), and Brian Butler (Wyckoff, NJ) who got hit by a pitch, walked and walked respectively to get on base. The Roadrunners fought back with three runs to Montclair's one in the 3rd to make it a two run game. Marc DeCastro (Haddon Heights, NJ) hit a RBI double to score Brian Sheekey (Palm Coast, FL) in the 3rd while Chris Rastelli (New City, NJ) walked in Ramapo's first run of the game after walking KEITH GUTHRIE (Fairless Hills, NJ), MIKE LALLIS (Berkeley Heights, NJ), and giving up a single to sophomore AARON EYLER (Edison, NJ) to load the bases. Rastelli walked in the second run and EYLER scored on a RBI single by DOUG MEIER (Clifton, NJ). Montclair posted ten more runs scattered throughout the game while the Roadrunners only added five to fall 15-8.
Montclair recorded 15 runs on 14 hits with two errors while Ramapo tallied eight runs on nine hits with two errors. Giacomiaz hit 2-5 with two runs and five RBI while Sheekey went 2-3 in the game with four runs and two RBI. Alex Thompson (Whippany, NJ) earned the win (1-3) with three strikeouts and one walk in 3 1/3 innings.
For Ramapo, EYLER went 3-5 with two runs and two RBI while RAMON DIAZ (Bronx, NY) hit 2-4 with one RBI in the game. Junior JOHN FRANKEN (Clifton, NJ) recorded the loss falling to 0-3 for the season. FRANKEN walked seven, struck out two and gave up seven runs on three hits in 3 2/3 innings.
The roadrunners will host Mercy College tomorrow at 3:30 PM.
