RAMAPO DOWNS RUTGERS CAMDEN, 5-2

Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team opened their NJAC season today at Jeff Maund Field in Mahwah. The Roadrunners faced the Scarlet Raptors of Rutgers Camden posting a 5-2 victory improving to 9-4-1 overall, 1-0 in the NJAC while the Scarlet Raptors fall to 6-6 overall, 1-1 in the conference.

Rookie PAT DOUGHERTY (Staten Island, NY) recorded the win today with eight strikeouts and six walks in eight innings pitched. DOUGHERTY let up two total runs, one earned. Mike Pizzutillo (Vorrhees, NJ) recorded the loss giving up four runs with five strikeouts and six walks.

Rutgers Camden took the lead in the 1st inning when Rick Flores (Vineland, NJ) crossed the plate on a passed ball. Flores was hit by a pitch earlier in the inning to get on base. Ramapo took the lead in the bottom of the 1st with a double by DAVE WINANS (Hillsborough, NJ). WINANS brought in KEITH GUTHRIE (Fairless Hills, PA) and RAMON DIAZ (Bronx, NY) who walked and hit a single respectively to get on base. Flores gave Rutgers Camden one more run in the 6th with a solo homerun. For Ramapo, BRAD SZATKIEWICZ (Branchville, NJ), DOUG MEIER (Clifton, NJ), and JON LOPEZ (Bronx, NY) each crossed the plate giving Ramapo the 5-2 win.

SZATKIEWICZ went 2-3 with one run while WINANS hit 1-4 with two RBI. GUTHRIE was 1-3 and DIAZ was 1-4, each with one run. Rutgers Camden's Flores led the way hitting 2-3 with two runs and one RBI while Nick Davidson (Voorhees, NJ) went 1-3.

Game two of the double header was postponed due to rain and will be played on April 6th, time TBA
