RAMAPO SOARS PAST NEW JERSEY CITY, 10-5

Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College Roadrunners downed the Gothic Knights of New Jersey City today at Jeff Maund Field, 10-5. Ramapo baseball improves to 10-7 overall, 3-1 NJAC while the Gothic Knights fall to 9-7 overall, 1-4 NJAC.

Jersey City took an early 2-0 lead in the 1st after Carmine Napolitano (Jersey City, NJ) and Phil Lospalluto (Cliffside Park, NJ) scored off a double by sophomore Pat Moore (North Arlington, NJ). Jersey City put another run on the board in the 3rd when Mike Basile (Wayne, NJ) hit a sac fly to center scoring Lospalluto. Lospalluto tripled to get on base.

Senior JASON VALLONI (Katonah, NY) hit a double to lead off the 4th starting Ramapo's streak. The team scored ten runs on seven hits. VALLONI and JOHN LOPEZ (Bronx, NY) both scored when senior TOM TOPOLSKI (Wyckoff, NJ) singled. Senior SHAUN BURSTEIN (Beachwood, NJ) scored the tying run and TOPOLSKI scored the go ahead run in the same inning to give Ramapo a 4-3 lead over New Jersey City. TIM OTANO (Middle Village, NY) crossed the plate for the Roadrunners to end the 4th inning with a two run lead over the Gothic Knights. Ramapo never looked back adding five runs in the 5th to Jersey City's two in the 8th. Ramapo recorded its tenth win of the season with the 10-5 victory over NJCU.

Rookie JOE RIVISTO (Bronx, NY) went 1-3 with a triple and four RBI while BURSTEIN and VALLONI both hit 1-4 with one run scored. BURSTEIN added one RBI for the day while OTANO tallied one RBI and two runs scored.

For the Gothic Knights, Lospalluto went 2-3 with two doubles and three runs scored. Sophomore Steve Stiller (North Arlington, NJ) hit 3-4 for the day.

Rookie pitcher DOUG MEIER (Clifton, NJ) earned the win (1-1) with nine strikeouts and one walk in seven innings pitched. Darlin Pena (Union City, NJ) recorded the loss. Pena struck out one and walked eight in 4 1/3 innings.

The Roadrunners will travel to The College of New Jersey tomorrow at 11:30 AM for a doubleheader with the Lions.
