Gary Orr

Coach Gary Orr returned to his alma mater in 2007 to head and rebuild the Ramapo College women's and men's swim programs.  He currently is entering his eighth season at the reins and brings 20-plus years of experience, ranging from age group swimmers to masters swimmers.  Most recently, Orr has led two different NJ Masters Swimming Programs to five NJ State Championships, including two individual world masters champions.

Along with his swimming experience, Orr has an impressive triathlon-coaching resume. He has created, established and coaches a highly successful triathlon training program, with athletes ranging from age group, junior, elite and professional tri-athletes.  Orr is a tri-athlete himself, being a three-time finisher of the Iron Man National Championships in Lake Placid, NY.

Orr is a 1983 graduate of Ramapo College with a degree in business administration. He was a former varsity swimmer being named captain for his senior year. Some of his accomplishments include: Team record holder in the 200, 500, 1000, 1650 Freestyle and 400 IM-Metropolitan Conference Champion – 1650 Freestyle (1980), Pool Record Holder – Iona College – 1650 (1980), Sports Council Representative for the Swim Team (Sophomore & Junior Year), President Sports Council (Senior Year).

It was said by former Ramapo Swim Coach Dave Turnage that "Gary was my first major recruit which has added credibility to the program. This in turn opened the doors to additional high profile recruits to keep the momentum of the team rolling.

Orr currently resides in West Milford, NJ. He enjoys life with his wife Danah, and spending as much time as possible with his daughters, Mackenzie and Ryleigh.
