Box Score Union, NJ: The #5 Montclair State University baseball team came back to defeat #3 Ramapo College today in game #9 of the NJAC Tournament 5-4. The Red Hawk improve to 23-19 overall and advances to the NJAC Championship game tomorrow at 4pm, they will wait to play the winner of game #10 of the tournament.
The Roadrunners (31-10-1) advance to play #2 The College of New Jersey (30-9) at Noon tomorrow at Kean University.
The Roadrunners got on the board in the top of the first inning when
Connor Walsh drove home
Rob DeAngelis from second base with a hard hit single down the right field line 1-0. DeAngelis led off the inning with an infield single and moved to second on an infield ground out.
MSU tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning when Ryan Thieme singled to third base and advanced to second on a throwing error. He stole third base and later scored on a single from Joe Foote to tie the game 1-1. Kevin Campbell put the Red Hawks up 2-1 with a sac fly to right field plating Matt Long.
Brandon Martinez led off the top of the seventh with a double to the base of the left field wall.
Scott Paulus then ripped a single back up the middle into center field allowing Martinez to score to tie the game at two. Ramapo would take the lead when
Matt Chemis drew a bases loaded walk with one out to force home Paulus for a 3-2 lead. Following the second out of the inning, Walsh added an insurance run for the Roadrunners when he reached on a fielder's choice allowing Rinsky to cross home plate for a two run lead 4-2.
In the bottom of the eighth, MSU tied the game with two outs. Peter Pena lifted a sac fly to left field plating the tying run before Kevin Campbell singled to left center allowing Keith Murphy to score from second base to tie the game 4-4.
Kevin Alonso drew a one out walk in the bottom of the ninth before Ryan Long laced a single down the left field line to put runners on first and second. Matt Long would draw a walk to load the bases for Foote beat out a infield hit allowing Alonso to score for the 5-4 walk-off win.
Jerry D'Andrea (1-2) took the loss for Ramapo in relief surrendering two runs and four hits. Martinez led the team finishing the game 3-4 with one run scored.
