Auburn, NY: The #2 Ramapo College baseball team fell to #4 Susquehanna University today at the NCAA New York Regional 7-2. The Roadrunners wrap up the season at 35-12-1 overall. The Crusaders move on to play #1 SUNY Cortland tomorrow at noon.
Ramapo ties a program best for wins in a season while they record one of the best overall records in program history. The last time the Roadrunners had less than 12 losses was during the 1985 season when the team finished 33-10 and made it to the NCAA Tournament.
The Crusaders got on the board with one run in the top of the fourth inning before Ramapo tied the game in the bottom of the sixth 1-1.
Matt Chemis singled to center field to lead off the sixth before he stole second and moved to third on a throwing error by the catcher. Walsh then laced a double down the right field line plating Chemis with the game-tying run.
Susquehanna put up four runs in the top of the fourth inning on five hits to go up 6-1. They added one in the eight for a 7-1 lead before Ramapo scored the final run of the game in the ninth inning.
Brandon Martinez walked before Walsh ripped a single to left field to put runners on first and second. With two outs
Scott Paulus drove a pitch back up the middle to center field allowing Martinez to come around and score.
Susquehanna was able to hold off Ramapo for the remainder of the game to advance to the NCAA New York Regional Championship game. Ryan Beckwith (3-1) earned the win for the Crusaders working eight innings and striking out four while scattering ten hits.
Kyle Haag (2-2) took the loss for the Roadrunners on the mound, he struck out five and walked only one while scattering five hits over six innings of work. Walsh led Ramapo at the plate going 3-4 while Chemis added a 2-4 performance.
