Auburn, NY: The #2 Ramapo College baseball team handed #4 Susquehanna University their first lost of the 2016 NCAA New York Regional with a 9-2 win. The Roadrunners tie the program mark for most wins in a season with a 35-10-1 overall record. Susquehanna (39-15) will take on #6 Castleton State (33-11) at 2:30pm tomorrow afternoon in an elimination game.
Ramapo moves onto play #1 Cortland (39-5) at 11:00am tomorrow morning. The winner plays onto Championshp Saturday while the loser will play at 6:00pm tomorrow night.
The Roadrunners used a six run third inning to break open the game.
Ryan Rinsky drew a leadoff walk before
Rob DeAngelis beat out a bunt single.
Matt Chemis placed a bunt down that was picked up by the Susquehanna catcher, as the play went to third base. Rinsky slide into third base safely leaving the bases loaded for
Joe Venturino who drew a bases loaded walk to push home the first run of the game for a 1-0 lead. Following a pitching change,
Brandon Martinez ripped a single through the left side plating DeAngelis and Chemis for a 3-0 lead. Venturino and Martinez moved up on a wild pitch before
Connor Walsh lifted a sac fly to center field as Venturino raced home for a 4-0 lead.
Bobby Shannon and
Joe Crabbe followed up with back-to-back RBI singles, extending the lead 6-0.
Ramapo added two runs in the fifth inning. Martinez and Walsh hit back-to-back singles putting runners on the corners with one out. Walsh moved up one base on a wild pitch before Shannon drove home the seventh run of the game with a single to center.
Joe Crabbe lifted a sac fly to center field plating Walsh for an 8-0 lead.
The Crusaders scored two runs with two outs in the seventh inning. Dylan Glassmire ripped a double to right centerfield as Tom Giaimo scored before Zach Leone laced a single to left field allowing Glassmire to come around and score.
The Roadrunners added one run in the top of the ninth, extending their lead 9-2. Martinez smacked a double down the left field line
Scott Paulus drove him home with a single through the left side of the infield. The Crusaders put the leadoff runner on in the bottom of the ninth with a single before Ramapo's
Jerry D'Andrea closed out the game with three straight outs.
Casey Jervis (3-0) earned the win on the mound for the Roadrunners scattering nine hits over seven innings pitched with three strikeouts and three walks. Ramapo pounded out 13 hits in the game while DeAngelis and Martinez each went 3-5 at the plate.
John Cooley (4-3) took the loss for Susquehanna. He worked 2.0 innings surrendering two hits, four runs while he struck out three and walked three.
