2009 Women's Volleyball Season Review

25-11 Overall, 6-2 NJAC

The Ramapo College women's volleyball team finished their 2009 season standing at 25-11 overall, 6-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference and a third place finish in the regular season.

The Roadrunners opened the 2009 season 2-2 at the Emerson College Tournament on September 4th and 5th. They opened the tournament with a 2-3 loss to Emerson before defeating Hamilton, 3-2. The following day they fell to Plymouth State, 0-3 and defeated Simmons, 3-1. Ramapo went on a five game winning streak over a two-week period. They hosted the NJAC/Skyline Challenge and posted shutout wins over St. Joseph's (LI) and SUNY Purchase, 3-0. The team earned their first NJAC win with a 3-0 win over William Paterson before they traveled to the FDU-Florham Tournament. They posted wins over Cedar Crest and Rutgers Camden, 3-0 and fell to the host FDU-Florham, 1-3.

Ramapo then went on a five game win streak with two wins in NJAC action. They defeated Rowan, 3-2 on the road before defeating Rutgers-Newark, 3-0. As the host of the Roadrunner Classic, Ramapo posted three wins over USMMA, Simmons and Baruch before falling to NJAC rival Stockton on the road, 0-3. They defeated Polytechnic, 3-2, John Jay, 3-0, Lehman, 3-0 and New Jersey City, 3-2 before falling to Montclair State, 2-3. They bounced back with a 3-2 over Russell Sage and fell to SUNY Brockport, 1-3. Stevens handed Ramapo a 3-0 loss before they defeated College of Staten Island and Rutgers-Camden, 3-0 in NJAC action to earn the #3 seed in the upcoming NJAC Tournament.

First the Roadrunners would compete at the Skidmore Tournament in Saratoga Springs, NY. They defeated Union and SUNY Plattsburgh, 3-1 and 3-0 respectively and lost to SUNY New Paltz and SUNY Cortland, 0-3.

In the first round of the 2010 NJAC Tournament, Ramapo went up against #3 seeded Rutgers Camden, the Roadrunners came away with a 3-0 win to advance to the semi-finals and face #2 Stockton. The Ospreys defeated the Roadrunners, 0-3 loss. Ramapo was then awarded the #5 seed in the ECAC Metro Championships. Ramapo traveled to #4 FDU-Florham in the opening round and defeated the host Devils, 3-0 to advance to the semi-finals on the road against #1 Ithaca. Ramapo fell to the Bombers in a tough 2-3 loss.

Sophomore Kayla Anders (Harrington Park, NJ) led the team with 417 kills on 823 attempts for a .431 hitting percentage. She also posted 25 service aces, 84 digs and 74 total blocks, 39 solo blocks. Sophomore Kaitlin Smith (Westwood, NJ) tallied 332 kills on 683 attempts for a .341 hitting percentage. She posted 22 assists, 41 service aces, 74 digs and 75 total blocks. Sophomore Maura Burke (Wyckoff, NJ) recorded 249 kills on 586 attempts for a .287 hitting percentage. She tallied 15 service aces and led the team in total blocks with 130 and solo blocks with 64. Sophomore Kimberly Runge (Closter, NJ) was second on the team with 245 digs; she also posted 138 kills, 12 assists and 42 service aces. Sophomore Tiffany Fischer (Woodcliff Lake, NJ) led the team with 1,144 assists and service aces with 68.
