Go, fight, win!

Do you have creative bones in your body?  Do you have school spirit?  Do you like to win?  If so then here is the competition for you! 

In celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Ramapo College, the Traditions Council is holding a contest to see who can best capture the Roadrunner spirit in words!

The winner will receive an amazing Ramapo swag basket and have the lyrics adopted as the College's official fight song lyrics. The winning lyrics will be chosen by the Ramapo Traditions Council and be announced and performed at the basketball game on February 5th in conjunction with the pep band.

So what is a fight song?
According to Webster Dictionary: a song used to inspire enthusiasm usually during an athletic competition. But we will add this: It's a call to arms!  It fosters school spirit! And it brings us together to support our Roadrunners! #WeAreRCNJ

Contest guidelines:

  • Cannot contain any vulgar language or suggestive themes/messages.
  • Cannot contain the name of any student, or describe any individual or their likeness.
  • Must be written in a general format to include all RCNJ students, not just an individual team, organization, college, etc.
  • Please review the NCAA Respect Campaign prior to writing your lyrics.
  • All entries must be submitted through email in video file format to traditions@ramapo.edu in conjunction with the form below.  We want to hear your voice!
  • The winner agrees to work with Ramapo staff to develop music and/or instrumentals to accompany the lyrics.
  • Winners will be notified by the judges and will be publicly announced and revealed at the basketball game on February 5th.
  • Most Important..... Have fun with it! Let's see what you got!
Judges and judging process:
The judging committee will evaluate all submissions and select winners based on the rules and guidelines laid out for the competition. The committee of judges will include members of the Traditions Council, representatives from the Ramapo music department, and the President's Cabinet.  The Traditions Council will notify the winner and start the process of organizing the composing of the music to accompany the lyrics.

Terms and Conditions:
By submitting an entry to the contest;

  • You agree to submit no more than three Fight Songs for the contest;
  • You agree that each song submitted for the Fight Song Contest is your original work and does not infringe upon the intellectual property or other rights of any person or entity;
  • You agree that if your submitted Fight Song is selected as the winner, you will relinquish all claims, rights, interests and benefits related to the display, modification, reproduction, publication, distribution, use, and other exploitations of the Fight Song and that Ramapo College may copyright the Fight Song;
  • You agree that Ramapo College holds all right, title and interest to the submitted Fight Song, including its lyrics, and that the College may alter or change the lyrics at any time;
  • You agree that Ramapo College shall use the song for promotional, marketing, advertising and/or educational purposes and not for commercial purposes and has the right to the Fight Song and may choose when to use it or not to use it at all;
  • You agree that you have read and agree to be bound by these terms and conditions and the Fight Song Contest Rules (see above); and
  • You agree that your failure to comply with these terms and conditions and the Fight Song Contest Rules will result in the disqualification of your submitted songs(s).
